Re: Co-Working near Clapham Junction?

Hi all,

Firstly thanks for the awesome responses to my question! I haven't logged in for the longest time as I've been super busy!

I've had a look around and visited a few that I thought were in my price range, close to home, and on the same level as me. A lot of the co-working spots I seen were really excellent and had meeting room spaces, desks, etc, but the cost was much higher for something I really wouldn't use as I can meet clients in a cafe. Another factor I had to think about was I usually have at least two coffees and sometimes I'll splurge and have a bite to eat, these start to add up over the course of a month. As I'm out 2 times a week, 4 coffees and one meal would add up to about £80-100 per month (coffee at £2.50 and breakfast/lunch about £10). I've decided to join the nice guys over at Ben at Work. It works for me and will be signing up as soon as I wrap up my latest contract (hoping in the next few weeks). The 30% discount on their food, drinks was a no-brainer for me. I now will save 30% for everything I eat, which basically means the £24 per month when added to the food I'll have will actually save me money.

The down-sides are that as it's a cafe, there are the occasional babies or loud people. This might be an issue if I'm on the phone. I won't have access to a meeting room, but as mentioned this isn't an issue. All in all it's not too bad and if I don't like it, I can cancel my membership as it's a rolling contract. I didn't want to sign up to some sort of contract.

Anyways, I hope this post can help a few people who might have wondered what I chose in the end.

All the best!

Hi everyone

Yes, I am the entrepreneur who has opened the new Battersea Design Works at 521 Battersea Park Road. We have incredible facilities here with high speed Internet, good GDPR, fabulous coffee, meeting room, vending machine, free VOIP calls, showers, 80m2 garden, bike rack and A3/A4 colour/black and white printing.

We are not £30 (for a single day, yes) but £150 for 10 days/month or £250 for every day but after a few free coffees you are all in for less than £10 a day.

Check us out at www.batterseadesign.works and have a free day on us anyway. Viewing every day for a 15 minute tour and sit in our garden with your laptop and a coffee and you won’t look back!

Hello, there is also the scratch hub at Battersea arts centre, they have a co-working space very close to Clapham Junction but maybe above the budget, I think they're about £100 a month.

The other one Id recommend is the Trident Business Centre in Tooting Broadway and it is a social enterprise as well.

There's a new shared space opened on Battersea Park Road, on the south side close to the junction of Latchmere Road. Sorry, can't recall what it is called.

Hey Jacob,

As George rightly said, there is a group of entrepreneurs that meet near Clapham Junction as a co-working community. Our members typically work from home like you and have started working full-time on their businesses.

Apart from having a friendly chat about business, we meet every month for a special, entrepreneur-focused event (the last one was from the great guys at Killik & Co) which offers a great opportunity to meet local business owners and learn some new stuff. This is all held at Ben's Canteen which is very close to Clapham Junction and costs £20+vat per month and includes a 30% discount at the cafe.

If you're interested in joining, let me know, I'm the community manager and would happily meet you to show you around and talk to you more about the benefits. In the meantime, take a look at the website: https://www.benatwork.space/

Hi Jacob,

I'm sure the team at Ben at Work would welcome a chat with you. I know they have a growing freelance community that work from both the Clapham Junction and Earlsfied sites. Link below;

Co-Working near Clapham Junction?

by JacobSeed » Thu Mar 28, 2019 3:35 pm

Hi everyone,

I've just moved to Clapham from Canada and run my own little business from home. I used to be a part of a group of entrepreneurs who would meet at a local cafe to help each other with our businesses and basically to get us out of the house before we went crazy! We would occasionally have social nights or events to get everyone together which was a lot of fun.

I know there are rental office spaces available but the costs are way too high for a small startup like mine. I was hoping for something very casual and relaxed, max £30/month.

If anyone can help me I'd appreciate it!
Jacob
