I have now switched to just using Revolut (card payments and bank transfers). Really easy and good rates.

I use Thomas Exchange, a similar experience to @yesabellevue's with MoneyCorp. Set up an account send them money, they email me back with a quote  (the bigger the amount better the rate) and then they transfer it to my other bank account in currency. 
While for more day to day things I would recommend Monzo or Revolut as per @Moving2SW11

I've had homes in France for about 17 years and though I initially used my UK bank to transfer monies to my French bank, I soon found it was much quicker, and I got a much better rate, by going through MONEYCORP. I set up an account with them. I transfer monies on line from UK bank to Moneycorp, who e mail me within 2 hours that the monies are in. If I don't call them, they call me. The more funds you transfer, the better the rate they give. (17 years ago, I got 1.40 € to the £ !) I agree a deal and the money arrives in my French bank account within 24/48 hours.Bonne chance

Revolut has the best rate, easy to use. I’d recommend doing smaller amounts first to test it. Once you reach certain level, they will also ask to do further KYC which could hold you up by appx a week.

I use FairFX together with their credit card.  Works for me.  But you should also check your bank.  Mine has dropped virtually all their charges to compete with the FX companies and offer a really good rate.

I use AFEX and have never had any issues and seem to get an ok rate.

Good afternoon, my husband and I recently bought a house in the Dordogne and have to work out how to transfer cash from pounds to euros. We would prefer not to use a bank; has anyone else been in this position and used an FX Broker? If so would you recommend them?
