We have experienced both in my child’s primary years. Private has more “extras” in many cases, more school trips, more music lessons etc, so it makes those extra activities a bit easier.
When your child is little a small school seems a great thing. However as they get older a single form entry does not give you the same advantages as a larger school- actually fewer clubs, fewer friends to choose from, etc. add to this the fact that lots of people move “out” as their kids get older and you find the class sizes dwindle further up most schools. If your choice is between an outstanding state school with 90 and a indie school with 18 in a year, i think your kids will have more opportunities with 90. Get an afterschool nanny to provide wraparound and ferry your kiddo to lessons etc. the price is comparable, you have more freedom, and if you have more than one child you won’t be paying twice (or three times, etc).
