Well I'm here now 2 nights down 4 more to go, my husband has also had to go back to London for work so has left me here without a car, I am literally stuck here. We have done 9 christmases here in a row, we have never seen my family for my holidays (thanksgiving), he keeps promising but for one reason or another we don't go. Every year its the same thing, my whole argument is that in US we don't get this much time off so for me this is so weird and unnatural. But he says that I'm a weirdo and that all families in UK spend this much time together over holidays.

Oh yes, my MiL is doing a great job of teaching me how not to be a MiL.

I have to say two nights is usually my preferred maximum stay with the inlaws. After 3 days, I need a break. Although I desperately hope whoever marries my boys when they're grown feels differently!

My inlaws live abroad so we only see them every other Christmas. But then I get a week of them. Three days is absolutely plenty and about as much as I can tolerate.

My parents live nearby so we see them for a few hours at a time. Again, absolutely plenty.

Two nights seems ok, but my inlaws are nearby (an hour and a half drive) and I like them a lot. I'd live with three if my husband wanted to stay longer, but wouldn't be thrilled with more than that.

Depends on how much there is to do there, for you and your husband and kids. If there are parks, playgrounds, swimming pool, movie theatre you can get out of the house and it'll be easier all around. And you and your husband could take advantage of the temporary live-in babysitters and go out on your own for a walk, a meal, etc!

Absolutely no more than 1 night!!! It obviously depends on your relationship with your inlaws and mine is such that 1 night is too long! I can't believe some of you go for 10 days ... You are very good daughter in laws!! This year I'm going to my parents for a few days, then my husband will join us for Christmas Eve, and on Boxing Day we'll go to his parents for the day and night.

Merry christmas everyone, wherever you are!

Omg 10 days !!! 5 days is my very max ! My family are abroad too , so we used to spend all holidays with my in laws, after a few years I began to realise that the mother in law didnt approve of some of my parenting skills or me ! no surprise there ! so I gradually began to put my foot down about always spending Christmas at theirs , eventually refusing to go but instead inviting them to our house , where as guests ,they are much more civilised and she less bitchy ! They Never stayed more than 3 days ! You must realise that you married your husband NOT his family . And as much as he loves them he cant expect you to too !
Three days is perfect, any longer becomes uncomfortable . Good luck !
