We also see Helen Cox, paediatric allergist for my daughter who has non-ige allergies to dairy, egg, wheat and soya. We also see Dr Shah at Gt Ormond St who doesn't like the word intolerance, he says it is an allergy, just not an 'ige' one - so I'd look up non-ige allergies and see if they fit with your symptoms.

Agree with previous poster who said soya and dairy go hand in hand. The protein is almost the same (60 / 70% similar) so don't swap dairy for soya.

Also, cutting down won't help. It really needs complete elimination if that is the issue.

There are no tests to pick up intolerances / non-ige allergies. The gold standard is eliminatuion and re-introduction diets. My daughter also had an endoscopy and colonoscopy to see what was going on inside, and the best way to describe is it like eczema inside. Once the 'skin' is compromised / irritated you need to leave it to calm (elimination diet) before reintrodcing to see if it can cope with it again.

I would definitely recommend your GP as the first point of call, or your Practice Nurse. Good luck, you feel so much better once it has been properly investigated and you know what is causing the problem.

klw, you might want to try Ilumi if you haven't already, for dairy, wheat and nut/sesame-free food. My daughter has severe food allergies, and we love it. The meals are quite good and once you sign up to their mailing list they send all sorts of discount codes, etc. We've checked it fairly thoroughly and I think they do what they say they do.

We have used Dr Helen Cox (at the Cromwell or St Marys Paddington) but am not certain if she's entirely focused on paediatric allergies & testing. She is excellent.

Incidentally my son is dairy intolerant and we were advised that an intolerance to soya often goes hand in hand with dairy issues. In addition to this we are now on a wheat and gluten free diet to see whether that makes his general health (but particularly digestive system) work better.

Bit of a pain when we go out to eat, but actually easier than I had feared at home and makes a whole lots of sense nutritionally (ie his diet is meat, veg, fish, rice, potatoes- very little processed food and very healthy) Good luck!

Perhaps try an allergist, even if only to ask for their opinion? My daughter goes to Gideon Lack, who seems great. I'm happy to ask him what he thinks about how best to check intolerances, if you'd like.

Thanks for the feedback. I gave up milk, cream, runny cheeses about 2 years ago following pneumonia (not man flu honest!). I lost a lot of weight and no longer have the chest infections I had.

I'm wondering what else e.g. peanut butter might be good to miss. I was quite surprised by reading the Blood type diet which I did associate with "snake oil" and would like something a little more exact.

I would highly recommend Sarah Bowles Flannery - I have been going to her for years for various reasons.
