We used Nathan Clarke from Lifestyle Shutters and we were thrilled with the result. We chose MDF ones although the hard wood ones weren't very much more expensive. I would DEFINITELY recommend him and his team - a joy to deal with!

I have fitted out our house and a rental flat with shutters and can recommend Jane at Shutter Frontier. She gave me the best quote and the friendliest advice the first time round and then has matched/bettered the best quote ever since. If you're after white shutters then consider the MDF ones as they look the same once sprayed and cost a lot less. Most companies source their shutters from China, so you're looking at about an 8week wait.

We had shutters made for our large and tall bay window last autumn. I had 3 quotes and found that the two companies who use Chinese manufacturers (still 100% wood) came in within £100 and that a high end provider's quote was double - though admittedly you could see a difference in quality up front. We decided to go with one of the cheaper quotes and for just under £1300 (price depends on the area being covered) - SHutterly Fabulous. From the fellow who gave the quote to the installer, they were very professional and the end product looks better than I had imagined. The fitter did an absolutely fabulous job given our wonky windows. I could not have been more pleased!

I just wanted to mention my recent experience as I looked at these posts when researching for plantation shutters for my bay window. I went with the Traditional Shutter Company - they had a really competitive quote and great lead / install time (I think it was about 4 weeks. they quoted 4 - 6weeks).
They were nice and professional and came round to ours during the evening and weekend - i.e. when it suited us.

They are now in and I LOVE them - they totally transform the room. Would highly recommend and use them again. Just wanted to mention in case anyone else was looking!

Hi, I have also used Capella Shutter Company. Paul Reynolds is really helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend the products and customer service.

Hello,

I have just recently had shutters installed and contacted many companies. Our quote for two full bay windows plus extra window ranged up to over £5000. We went with the cheapest quote which ended up being £2068 which was a lot less than we expected to pay. The guy was great and kept to timings. Extremely reliable, which is a rare thing these days. I couldn't recommend him enough.

ive done this on several houses over the years and you cant beat John Lewis for fabric - blinds and curtains) and plantation shutters (Rob - the owner in putney). very bad experiences elsewhere in Northcote rd for example with the costs far exceeding the aformentioned. good tip is to walk down thurleigh rd for example or hillier and look at the exterior of blinds and if you like them knock on the door and ask who supplied them! ive done that many a time with paint colours, ironmongery (which is invariably from SDS!) etc and why not let someone else do the research and you just go out and window shop with a difference!

Hi, I used Shaftsbury shutters on Wakehurst Road. They were reasonable, I am really pleased with the shutters & I've had lots of compliments from friends & neighbours.

I would recommend white / ivory rather than a colour & we had the ones without handles in the middle & v wide slats which gives a contemporary look & let in a lot of light.

We also used the New England Shutter Company after a lot of deliberation - again was so pleased with the final product and the care and attention they took in installing them. Its worth the little bit extra ...

Hi there, we used Shutterly Fabulous (www.shutterlyfabulous.com) for our house and they were fantastic and were also the cheapest from the five quotes I had.

For the bay window curtain pole, I bought one from Laura Ashley and it works fine.

Good luck :)

We did a lot of research into bay window poles. Some of the made to measure ones were soooooo expensive and I think one of the problems with buying the bits and bendy poles to go round the corners is that these can be less smooth and secure. We ended up buying a track/pole combo made by Silent Gliss and are pleased with it - it looks like a pole but has a track in it. Cheaper than bespoke curtain poles. Got them from the "Paint House" on Northcote Road (they have some on show in there so you could go for a look - not the cheapest shop but very helpful and they agreed to better some other quotes we had for curtain making...).

I recommend the New England Shutter Company based on Jaggard Way near Wandsworth station.

I have used them for a couple of clients and the quality of their work and shutters is excellent. They are not as cheap as some others but this is because the composition of their shutters is slightly different. They use American Tulip wood in whole pieces, many of the less expensive companies use Poplar wood which is glued together to form the shutters.

The other difference is the finish, TNESC use a spray painted finish, less expensive companies use a spray painted finish with a UV coating which in my opinion makes them look quite plastic-y.

The less expensive shutters will do the job just fine but I find on closer inspection the TNESC shutters are a better product. Also their lead time is 4 weeks vs 7-8 of others which manufacture in china.

For a master bedroom and a bay window sitting room in Balham the cost was circa £2500 all in.

Hope that helps,

Emma
