Re: Nursery with longer than average hours

Hi, the Asquith nursery on Latchmere Road is open from 7.30am to 6.30pm which is longer than average.

My son went there about a year ago until we moved house and he loved it. They had a few weird issues when they had a management change but a friend of mine has a child there now and speaks highly of it.

The Bridge Lane nursery is impossible to get into (probably because it is ofsted rated as 'outstanding'). They had closed the waiting list when I telephoned them because it was so long!

for those hours, a nanny share would surely be more convenient and as someone already said it would allow your baby some time at home. if you find someone close enough, which in sw london is not that hard, your nanny should be able to work around both families. we previously did a full time share and the nanny just collected the other child a bit earlier and brought her round to our house for our start time when it was at our house and then took her back at the end of the day as i tended to get home earlier than the other family. we alternated houses every 2 weeks so we shared the convenience and wear and tear, food etc! you might not find someone with the exact same requirements but i wouldnt be put off, if they are close enough, your nanny should be able to work around it. it worked out about £1600 pcm for 8-630, barely more than the nurseries and way more convenient.

there is a great nanny share website where you can search by postcode but dont think i can post it on here!

good luck.

Your nanny fees are far too high. You should be able to pay say £400 net per wee kto the nanny which would cost you are £620 all in.
Another option is to get an evening helper - pick up from nursery, bring child home etc. They will probably do a bit of housework too. Have friend to have someone 3 hours a day. Often students looking for extra income. Gumtree is good, but you will have to sift through hundreds of replies, most of which will be no use.
Re nannies, try Nappy Valley Nannies. They are very good and local.

Although babyroom say 8am to 6.30pm, the Balham one lets you drop off at 7.45am and pick up at 6.45pm.

Both my children go to Bridge Lane (7am-7pm)> I cannot speak highly enough about them. Home for home feel, lots of love, cuddles, challenges, great toys, fantastic outdoor space, etc. The walls are covered of arts, they are very creative. My eldest is now in the preschool there (until january) and has been there since she was 10months old.
Go and see it, it is worth it.

can you get a nanny that maybe starts her day later with another family to come to you first to get your little one ready and drop her at nursery so that you can leave the house early enough? and again at the end of the day the same thing? or someone may have an au pair that maybe finishes at tea time so they are free to do your pick up? it will be a difficult job finding someone or you could just strike lucky.

Yes, my son goes there. He has been there for 1 year for 2/3 days a week and our daughter will be starting there in the summer when I go back to work. We choose Bridge Lane because it was walking distance from our home, the staff seem happy and friendly and the children always seem to be enjoying themselves. It hads a good reputation and has a waiting list, we had to wait 6 months to get our son in and since our son has attended the nursery it has received a very good Ofsted report ....whatever that means!

We are very happy with it. Definately worth visiting.

:)

yes a nanny may get around £90 ~ £100 a day but the employer has to allow for tax & NI on top which whacks up the cost

Hello.

I am a qualified and experienced nanny.

Nannies on average get around £90 ~ £100 a day.
So thats just under £500 a week, alot better than the £850 that you were quoted.

Good luck
