With the nipper I used a sheepskin liner and then a cosy toes when DD was tiny. The P&T cocoon did fit but my DD had grown too long for that by 6 weeks anyway

We have used a Maclaren double quest for our nannyshare arrangement and it has worked quite well. Pretty narrow and relatively light when folded up and we bought it secondhand for only £80 (a massive price difference from the City Select Babyjogger and the P&T even). It doesn't lie flat though, so probably would only work from about 4 months onwards. When i have used it i have struggled a little getting it in doorways and around shops (but i suspect you just adjust to that).

Having said all that I have just taken the plunge and bought a P&Ts for when number 2 arrives. Not that keen on toddler having to go at the back when the baby is sitting up and moves to a seat, but the width/compactness (if that's a word!) persuaded me.

Thanks - this is really helpful. I think I just needed some encouragement as everyone else says I am mad and should go for the P&T.

Yes I have checked it would go through the front door and in my hall! I did look at the Bugaboo donkey but it's hugely expensive!

I have been looking at the Mountain Buggy (if I can get a good 2nd hand one!) or the 360 nipper.

For those with the 360 nipper - it says you can put a newborn in it as it goes completely flat - but can you buy a cocoon for it? Or maybe I could use a bugaboo bee or P&T one?

Many thanks.

Would you be able to fit a side by side through your front door? I know my friend initially bought one of these for her twins and couldn't get it in her house so had to unload everything outside!

Have you seen the new Bugaboo Donkey? I'm not sure when it is available though.

I know you've discounted it, but thought I'd mention something about the Baby Jogger City Select. Yes, if you take it at face value, it is heavy. But you don't have to carry it! It's very easy to push, and has a very tight turning circle. The only time I have to lift it is to get it in and out of the car, and even with my weak hands and wrists (I have had carpal tunnel since getting pregnant) I don't have any trouble.

I think double buggies are one of the hardest things to buy and an expensive mistake if we get it wrong. I agonised over ours for months!

I have an 18 month age gap between my two. We have a Phil and a Nipper In step. We had the Phil from when my first child was born. The Phil was good when our little boy was newborn but he had outgrown it by 10 weeks. Then we started to use the Nipper and I just love it. Wouldn't be without it and the best buggy I reckon on the market.

I had an 18 month gap between my two and used a Out N About Nipper 360 (had a P&T to start with but hated it for the reasons you've given). It was fab much lighter and more manoeuverable than the P&T and I think only about 10cm wider, so not much really.

Buses were tricky though but if you don't use them often I'd definitely recommend it.

Double buggies - side by side - any thoughts?

Hi

I'm due to have my 2nd baby in May - there will be a 17 month gap between the two.

I have been looking at buggies, and I am really not sure a tandem style is for me. I really don't like the idea of a Phil and Teds (due to the lack of visibility/space for the child sitting underneath) or a City Jogger Select (just too heavy for me).

So, I am thinking of a side by side - am I mad???

I am mainly thinking of it as I think my son will still be in a pushchair for quite some time, he can't walk far and is very unpredictable about running off. Therefore I could still have two in a pushchair for up to 2 years.

How practical is a side-by-side? It fits through my front door, but I'm not sure how much hassle it is out and about... I'm used to a very nifty Bugaboo.

Anyway, any thoughts appreciated, including any recommended models.

Many thanks, Abi
