Thank you for this. I did a search and it seems that there were very bad reports. Quite a while back but I think as her first nursery experience I am going to look for something that has been consistently good and safe. Thanks again!

Hi

This thread is so useful as in busy looking for a nursery for my daughter and we just moved to London so I'm literally in the dark about everything.

I have been on a few visits and I went to grove hall nursery which I thought was pretty good but I see it got a really bad ofsted report about 3 years ago. Now it has a 'good' rating but I can't find that recent report. Anyone have a view on this nursery or have any advice. They seem to be one of the only ones that has reasonable prices and available space - which is maybe worrying in itself?!

TIA

Our son is at Northcote House and has been since he was 2yo - he loves it, food is great and the staff are really friendly and involved. There have been a few changes recently, a new manager and a lot of staff movement, but I think that that is fairly common in the nursery world? The new manager seems good though. There is a LONG waiting list to get in as a 1 yo I think.

We looked around Northcote House, KidsUnlimitied/Bright Horizons on Chatham Rd, Babyroom, and Lavender Hill day nursery (Asda carpark) before deciding on Northcote House.

I'm also a working mom & when moved to the area I looked at:
- Balham rainbow : my daughter goes here since she was 20 months - she's now 2.5. I'm really happy with it but one downside is very small outdoor space but they make up for it with lots of outings to park & field trips. Very close to Balham tube so makes commute into city much easier

- nightingale nursery http://www.nightingalesnursery.com
- wooden top http://woodentopsnurseries.com
- Asquith http://www.asquithnurseries.co.uk/nurse ... re-school/

There is also kindsunlimited on Chatham Road, just off Northcote Road.
But you have to register very early on, as they get booked up very quickly.

I think yes, most people have nannies..i think if you have 2+ kids, it works out cheaper

Hello. Is Elm Park nursery too far away for you? On Clarence Avenue, near Abbeville. We were very pleased with it - and it has the best garden I could find of any when I was looking at nurseries, plus Montessori and plenty of extra activities when they're a little older, and kind staff.

I looked at exactly the same thing recently and also came to the conclusion that Northcote House is the only real option if you are working full time. We looked round and were really impressed with it so have put our baby's name down. All the children seemed so happy and busy and the staff were very friendly. I think there is a relatively long waiting list so I'd get onto this as soon as you can.
The only other one that would work is The Baby Rooms on Webbs Road, but as it was a lot further from our house we decided against it.
I do think most people round here use nannies, they must do given the number of children!

Hello and thanks for this!
I forgot to say that I'm looking for a full time nursery for a 1 year old..
It seems bringing up baby and Northcote are the main (only?) ones fitting.
I went through the Wandsworth website and browsed them one by one and there is not so many ..
.. Which makes me wonder how working parents do with toddlers?
Do most people have nannys?

Hello and welcome

There are lots of excellent preschools in the area. Here are a few I know have a good reputation:

- Marmalade group (Cat, Caterpillar, Bear and the new one Owl) - my child is at Caterpillar and it is fantastic.
- Mouse House & Mouse Hole
- Alphabet
- Oaktree
- Chestnut Grove Montessori

Some others I don't know much about:
- Sparkies
- Nightingale Montessori
- Noah's Ark
- Balham Nursery (state run, free, only from 3 up)
- Lochinvar Preschool
- Bennerley House
- Butterfly Preschool
- Parkgate school has an attached preschool
- Honeywell school has an attached preschool (state) from 3

I have probably missed some (especially nearer to Clapham Junction as I don't know that area so well).
