My friend is a pastry chef for the claridge hotel in London. Outside her working hours she sometimes sell cakes on demand and also decorates them beautifully. She has always done my little boy birthday cake, once i was a tractor, then a thomas train cake, then a spiderman cake. She also did his christening cake with real edible flowers !!!! have a look at some of her cakes i photographed.

Not local but Konditor & Cook are good. Closest shops near Waterloo but They deliver. Pricey tho. I'll def check Waitrose out. Wandsworth suggestions sound great too

Hi, closer to home
On northcote road, the Northcote PAtisserie. They make delicious cakes, decorate it as you wish, are incredibly helpful and sweet people and it is reasonable priced. Support the locals!

I am a fan of Waitrose - the designs are lovely, the cakes are good, you can shop online (although beware of the 2-week notice on most cakes) and they deliver to you at convenient times for absolutely free. Absolutely great if you're busy organising the rest of the birthday party!

Cake Boutique is AMAZING - it's on Lavender Hill. They will make a cake for you, though they may be a bit grown up and are very pricey.

I was in The Fower Sanctuary in Hildreth Street on Saturday buying flowers and there were some gorgeous cupcakes in there from
The Cake Embassy :) There was also a book with lots of different birthday cake designs...if the cupcakes were anything to go by I imagine that they would be delicious.

Try Cakes by Robin in Southfields. They are amazing. I had my daughters 1st birthday cake made by them, and it was done to perfection. It was a cake for 50 people and I wanted fresh cream, so no easy feat, but they did an outstanding job, and for once it was a cake that adults enjoyed as well as the children! They also do wonderful traditional icing creations as well. Good luck and have a great party!

Ah yes, we've used Hummingbird before too. The devils food chocolate cake is devilish. http://hummingbirdbakery.com/ Peruse the website and you'll want to eat everything! :-)

I think the ultimate is the Humming Bird Bakery. The cakes are devilishly good, but this is also reflected in the price. Alternatively, you could buy the Humming Bird Bakery cookbook which has fool proof recipes for their cakes, cookies, pies, muffins and cupcakes. I recently bought it and I love it and my daughter and I are having such fun baking from it, mind you it isn't doing my waistline much good!

Waitrose? Good place to start, a few, not loads of designs but great value for money :)
