Still plenty of time to move your non-compliant diesel on then.

Funnily enough a petrol car built before 2006 can still be compliant as some models were Euro 4 compliant well before the deadline - Minis for instance.

The air quality figures around here are shocking, and I can't really find fault with trying to improve it. (And I drive a non-exempt diesel, so will have to pay or upgrade.)

My main concern here is that, rather than improve air quality in the borough, it will drastically worsen it because the zone boundary runs right through it.

I agree with Alchemy.

There will be a significant increase in traffic South of the zone for those (polluting) cars avoiding the charge.

And no doubt increase the traffic cutting through the avenues BTC.

Diesel car owners will be the most affected.

Their cars must be Euro 6 compliant which was compulsory for all the diesels registered after September 2015.

Your car may be Euro 6 compliant before this date but you may find that your diesel registered in August 2015 ,and only just over two years old, will be classed as a polluting vehicle and subject to the ULEZ charges just for crossing the South Circular to pick the kids up.

If in doubt enter your registration number at TFL's ULEZ checker.

Please don't make the mistake off thinking it's just for "older pre 2006" vehicles and doesn't affect you if you drive a diesel (and diesels seem to be in the majority in nappy Valley)

Two years old! There will be a lot of diesels available at basement prices soon...

If you have a diesel car you shouldn't be using it for such short runs anyway, as it emits NO2 and particulates that are hugely damaging to your children's health.

It seems to me that the main impact on local residents will not be the cost of driving into the ULEZ -- after all, all petrol cars manufactured after 2006 will be exempt --, but the fact that all the highly polluting non-exempt cars and vans will be routed through the heart of Wandsworth. Hardly ideal for local air quality.

How can this part of London be considered Central London? I'm all for controlling and fining vehicles that are poorly maintained and belch out unreasonable levels of black smoke, but this could be handled by spot fines targeted at these road users who are irresponsible with their vehicles.

Please do look at the proposed changes to the low emission zone and how it potentially effects you. This is the link to the article from the council or you can just go straight to the TFL website. The new zone will effect many residents of wandsworth so whether you agree or not please do look at the consultation.
The new boundary is to be the south circular so anyone driving to north of the south circular will be effected - eg taking kids to the Latchmere, the charges will be 24 hours and 7 days a week.
