Tell her not to get too stressed about the hype, there are places at every school, they just like you to think that there aren't.  Most parents register their children at 3 or 4 and only ever take one spot. Register shortly after birth at 3 or 4, then she doesn't have to stress about them. We turned down a place at both Broomwood and Thomas's and my child is no einstein.

Your daughter needs more than two schools on her list. It isn’t a buyers’ market round here I’m afraid. She should visit all the local schools and put her name down for about four or five. I hope her daughter is a baby as the waiting lists fill up very quickly! As to Thomas’s v Broomwood - see what you get offered and then decide. Don’t forget Prince George is at the Battersea Thomas’s, not the Clapham one (even though the Clapham one is actually also in Battersea!).

I believe Broomwood might have switched to lottery instead of assessments last year, tho you would need to confirm.

Both are lovely - suggest your daughter goes with her gut as to the one that feels right.

Can’t lose with either option!

Dear loving grandparent,

First of all, your daughter needs to register your grand child with both schools as soon as possible to getting into the main list for assessment.

Then I suggest to visit both schools at least a couple of times to get a good feel of the personalities, etc to see which school is the right fit for your grandchild.

Follow parents guts feeling, asking a lot of questions.

Hope it helps a little to begin with.

Broomwood versus Thomas’

Hi,

My daughter wants to send our grand daughter to private school. We read all of the posts about state versus private (including advice about ‘ghastly parents’) and got to the shortlist of Thomas’ versus Broomwood.

I sent my daughter to Broomwood Hall back in the 1980s before Thomas’ existed. And my son went to Finton House. But I am sure the celeb status of Thomas’ has attracted my daughter.

Accept it is a long shot to get into either.

What do you recommend? Any help much appreciated.
