I'm not a nursery owner or childminder but given the whole COVID 19 outbreak wouldn't it be reasonable to amend any existing policy to say that anyone with a temperature / cough etc. won't be allowed to attend nursery. And tag on that you want to draw attention to your usual illness policy which you will be observing very strictly in the coming weeks.

This seems reasonable to me. 

It's quite common in this part of the year, I know it might be disgusting, but it's part of the job. Considering the current state of the world, however, I do urge you to talk with the parents about the coronavirus outbreak. They need to be careful as it spreads easily and they could expose their children recklessly to the virus. More than giving the parents advice in regards to the care of their children, there's not much you can do. Best of luck.

Is this a nursery you are working in?

Apart from the current situation we are in (where we are watching out for fevers and coughs) I don’t think you can expect parents to keep babies at home if they have a cold. (Unless they have a temperature).

Runny noses are very common in the winter and surely it’s the nature of the job with children!

Obviously if it’s a tummy bug or something worse they need to be at home to get better.

The policy in schools (and nurserys I’m sure) is:

Should a child have an infectious disease, such as sickness and diarrhoea, they must not return until they have been clear for at least 48 hours.

Your post appalls me. You should think about an alternative career.

Can someone please tell me what their sick policies are?

I have one child who always seems sick! DCG 22 months old. Always a constant runny nose where I have to wipe every 2 minutes! Honestly! She snots on everything its so gross. I am constantly disinfecting toys that she plays with! Thank God she is only here for 2 hours in the morning and the 2 hours that she is here in the afternoon she sleeps.She is gone now but this morning she came in with a runny nose even more than usual and a cough. The cough is constant non stop and she has watery eyes. She felt warm but did not have a fever however I am sure that mom medicated her. She smelled of vicks. I don't think she slept well last night because she constantly yawned the whole 2 hours that she was here and she did nothing but sit in one spot looking like she was going to fall asleep.

I would like to post a letter in my entrance for parents to see on when NOT to bring their children. They all know my sick policies but a few still continue to bring their kids! This mom even told me one time that she did give the child tylenol because she was just teething

Can any of you great ladies give me some ideas on how to write this letter please.
