Pictures have emerged of a police incident in Wandsworth, which show a man in hospital pyjamas being aimed at with a taser in the middle of the road.

The incident took place when police were called to reports of a man suffering a mental health episode - with suggestions he was armed with a knife.

A spokesperson for the Met confirmed:

"This was a call to a man who appeared to be suffering a mental health episode in Kimber Road, SW17 shortly after 12:20pm on Sunday, 9 August."

"There was a report he was in possession of a knife. Officers attended and he was detained and returned to hospital."

Mark Westwood, who was at the scene, added:

"The man sitting on the ground was said to have a large knife as witnessed by some passers by, the police were on the scene within minutes when a member of the public called the Police, he was swearing and screaming at them 'not to come near me'.

"The police tried to calm the man down, they eventually used plastic shields and drew their Taser Guns. The man was eventually arrested on the scene after a 25 minute stand-off."
