My son was treated at The Michael Palin centre at a similar age. They were excellent and he has no evidence of a stammer anymore. They advocate early intervention. I’d be very happy to speak to you if it’d help.

My daughter had the same thing at 3 years old, during the lockdown last year. It went on for a couple of months and then settled down. An educational psychologist I spoke to said that it is common at that age because they have so much to say that their brain is working faster than they can form their words! It did settle down after a while and now (at 5YO) there’s no sign of it. Definitely keep an eye on it but it may settle down itself.

The Asltip website is a useful resource for private SLTs, you enter your postcode and can filter by specialism. The Michael Palin Stammer Clinic in London also has an excellent reputation. Good to get advice early - wishing you the very best.

Hi honeygranola.  You might find this website helpful (it has useful advice for parents): https://stamma.org/get-support/parents.  You can self refer on the NHS for speech therapy: https://www.evelinalondon.nhs.uk/our-services/community/community-speech-and-language-therapy/overview.aspx (if you live in Lambeth) or https://www.stgeorges.nhs.uk/service/community-services/speech-language-therapy-childrens/ (if you live in Wandsworth).  I am afraid that I can't help with recommendations for private SALT but someone else may be able to.

Hi there, hoping someone has experience around all of this. Our 3 year old has developed a stammer and we're now looking to see what sort of options are available with respect to helping him with this. I've been to the GP who said she would look into the same question and get back to me but I thought that the very helpful community here might also have some ideas. So any recommendations or experience with local therapists or services that cater for this type of thing would be helpful please. Thank you!
