What a terrible comment about children not being clever and no one making them, even private. Intelligence has different dimensions and not just academic. Emotional intelligence is becoming more and more important in any workplace and can be also taught. Different schools have different methods and ethos and kids might thrive in a school and not in another. I know kids who have started at Ruthford H, found it overly competitive, struggled academically and experienced bullying that was not dealt with, moved to Ravenstone, completely changed, got very strongly academically. Others who did not like Ravenstone and did not do particularly well there, moved to Rutherford and got top of the class. We are lucky to have a lot of choice and it is important to choose the school that fits a kid personality.
