I do spin at a SW London gym and I love it. This week we had a situation I wasn't sure how to deal with and I'd love to know if I'm being a bit cranky and old.
The person on the bike next to me was on their phone through most of the class. I mean picking up the phone, typing and then putting the phone back and then doing it again. Probably 30 times in whole session. It was that often. As the spin class room is dark it was really off putting, the glare was like if you're in a cinema and someone is on their phone then.
Normally I'd say something but the weird thing here was that the person on the phone was on a bike directly in front of the instructor, like 2 yards away. So I wondered if there was a reason they hadn't said something and so I'd be out of order to say something? I did wonder if it was a family emergency but then if it was you'd think they wouldn't in a spin class.
Forgot to add, when they were on their phone they stopped cycling. I looked at their mileage at end of class and they'd done 2km. Seriously. That's like a tenth of what a normal person would do. At one point I wondered if I was on a hidden camera show it was that.
Just looking for guidance on whether I could say something without being a weird person in the gym.
