We had to replace our Victorian front door about 4yrs ago and we got quotes from about a dozen companies. London Door Co was by far the most expensive for the same spec, and unbelievably pushy with lots of follow up emails offering time-limited discounts etc. Our friends then had the most beautiful front door made by Haroys (a family joinery in Poole, Dorset) and we got them to make ours. Same spec as London Door Co quoted for, for a significantly lower price and with hardware and locks of a far superior quality. The door is absolutely beaitfullly made and was installed with real skill and care. Although they’re based in Dorset, they do a lot to installations in SW London so they’re always around. Contact details:

PM me if you’d like photos of the door.

Hello

We just bought two new Victorian front doors from Cotswood - highly recommend them.  I did loads of research - London Door Company is a lot of people's go to but it changed hands a few years back and the reviews are less than complimentary now.

Firstly all new quality front doors are expensive - between £5-8k per door depending on style, glazing, whether you just need door or door and frame, locks - ie Banham or Era etc etc.  But you get a good quality, solid door that is secure.  Cotswood make from Accoya - supposedly the best.

Ours were only installed this year.  They fit beautifully and the fitters were great.  We are really pleased.

Good luck.

Can recommend talking to Stephen of Sashed. They cover front doors as well as traditional windows. Quality product well worth the wait.

There's a gorgeous shop & showroom for front doors on Northcote Road and the owner, Jack, is very helpful to speak to & not pushy. Definitely worth a visit.

Front Door suggestions

Hello
We've just bought a new house, traditional Victorian BTC, and need a new front door as the old one is rotten.

Two questions:

First - any recommendations?

Second - what do you get if you pay more?

I mean a door is a door! So what is the extra cash buying as the range in prices is so huge, is it just strength?

Thank you.
