No, I don't tip the Ocado delivery person. They get a reasonable wage. I only tip people who i know are on very poor wages and rely on tips - so serving staff, hairddresser assistants etc and i tip 10% which is the going rate.
God forbid that we end up with american style tipping culture.

I give anyone that delivers my groceries about 50p or £1, depending on how many groceries I have. It must be a lonely job driving around all day delivering groceries. It's just a little something, but when you do it - they always appreciate it. Plus I don't usually pay delivery if I can help it!

I also tip my hairdresser - 15%! and the girl that washes my hair - I give her £2. These guys make very little money, and they really appreciate my tips. I am American, so it's something I have always done. I tip someone that works hard.

I give my cleaner a Christmas gift and leave a Christmas tip for my milkman - he know's when I am away!! I also tip takeaway drivers. again - just 50p or £1.

happy tipping everyone....

I don't tip the Ocado delivery man/woman (I had a woman the other day).

I've already paid for delivery and never feel that they are looking at me for any money... maybe I'm just oblivious to it?

generally I don't but my rule of thumb is "have they gone beyond the norm/out of their way to help me?" if the answer is yes then I do.

one thing that really bugs me is mandatory service charge or advisory service charge that 'deliverance' put on their orders. bearing in mind they wouldn't have a business if they didn't deliver that takes the michael.

as for hairdressers? sorry girls I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole ;)

I tip my hairdresser 10% plus I give the person who washed my hair about £3. I have a friend who is a hairdresser for Tony & Guy and she advised me that this is the norm.

Since we are talking tips, can anyone tell me how much is customary to tip the hairdressers? And do you also tip who did your colour AND whoever washed your hair?
Thanks

How appalling if you are pregnant. Common courtesy would be fora man to at least help with bags.

I dont ever tip sainsburys drivers but if I get a friendly one, I chat and say thanks very much. I do my job without a lot of thanks, shouldnt everyone?

I tip waiters, any service person who has done a particularly good service, I often let people "keep the change" but I have a family to keep, a budget to keep and several charities and 2 sponsor kids to support.

You do what feels right. If its not within your bduget or means, then dont guility give. Defeats the purpose hey!

:)

When I started having my shopping delivered by Sainsburys, I expected the drivers to bring the bags up the stairs to my kitchen (1 floor - about 12 steps - not a big deal), but a good half of them complained and/or refused to do it (even when I was heavily pregnant); I contacted the customer service at Sainsburys to find out whether they are supposed to do it or not and they said not, because they're not insured to do so.
I've never tipped them, I felt guilty at the beginning but since then I've never ask them again to bring the bags upstairs and I never feel guilty anymore not to tip them...

I give £5 at Christmas, which is probably a bit silly as we never seem to get the same person twice.

I really struggle with tipping etiquette, especially on holiday.

We do, but we have an evil flight of stairs leading up to our block of flats ...

i wouldn't - he's being paid to do his job.

it seems more and more people expect tips just for turning up these days... i tip my hairdresser and my waiter, and that's it!
