Without any doubt, one of the best teachers around is a lady called Jo Redfearn
http://www.studiojo.com/
If you are lucky enough to get in to one of her classes you will never regret it. I don't know what she charges nowadays but her prices have always been the going rate. £55 sounds expensive unless it is one to one.
As you have a hip problem you would need to start off doing remedial Pilates so you need to choose a teacher with lots of remedial experience.
Length of time teaching doesn't necessarily equate to the best teacher or the right teacher for you.
Definitely contact Jo and if she can't fit you in, she should be able to refer you to someone decent. She has been teaching Pilates for years, she was one of the first teachers doing it over here I believe.
