Very good news!

I truly hope that this urges parks departments to have double looks at the trees on all grounds areas, just to ensure that roots are all strong and safe. I know the winds were outrageous this day...but always good for this to be tended to, especially around game zones! :)

Great news - the boys appear to be on the mend.

If you follow the link there is a lovely pic of the boys with Alex Tudor.

This is an updated statement from the Spencer Club website:

Update on the accident at the Spencer Club, 17th June, The Spencer Club is able to confirm the names of the three boys who were admitted to hospital after being injured in the accident at the Club yesterday.

They are Lewis Gaston, Aidan Oakley and George Roberts. Aidan has been discharged from hospital whilst Lewis and George are remaining under close observation. We understand that their condition is improving and we hope that they will continue to improve and make a full recovery. Our thoughts are with them both and their families.

At this time, the Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to those people who responded so quickly to this terrible accident and who ensured that the injured boys would have the best chances of recovery. The coaches and parents who were at the training session who reacted so quickly to a very serious situation; the players and spectators from Cheam and Spencer cricket clubs who were playing at the ground at the time who were able to lift the tree and free the trapped boys; the doctor who was present at the ground who administered emergency care; and the police and ambulance services who arrived within minutes to take the children to hospital. We are extremely grateful to them all.

The Club would also like to thank all those people from around the world who have sent the boys their best wishes. We have been very moved by the messages of support from the wider cricket community, and are passing them on to the boys and their families.

The following statement has been issued by the club:

"The Spencer Club confirms that an accident took place at the club this afternoon. A tree was blown down and three young cricketers were injured and taken to hospital. Their condition is currently being assessed. Naturally, the Club's thoughts are with those young ones and their families. As soon as we have had word from the hospital and the parents we shall be issuing another statement. In the meantime, all cricket at the ground has been suspended."

It goes without saying that the thoughts and prayers of all of us are with the boys and their families.
