Our next door neighbour's garden went up in a similar way. They had glass and rubbish in the garden and it spontaneously ignited in the sunshine, burning down our fence, tree, teak furniture and melting our bikes! It could have been so much worse. It really makes yo think!

A beaming crystal knob sent a bedroom up in flames after the sun refracted through it.

The shiny doorknob started a house fire in Rodenhurst Road, Clapham, on Monday, July 7, at 8.20am.
