Nextdoor.co.uk

Postby BrianP » Thu Apr 04, 2019 2:59 pm

I wonder whether anyone has recent experience of this website.  Letters are now being distributed in the Southfields area purporting to have been sent by named neighbours nearby.  The envelopes have fake 2nd class stamps.

The letters say the purpose of the website is for neighbours to share local information but online reviews suggest it is a scam for harvesting personal data. Users complain that the website demands access to all personal contacts and then broadcasts messages without the user's knowledge or consent.

Has anyone signed up to this - and how did it compare with NVN for instance?

Report it, the only information you should receive is a post card with your sign up details.

So have the envelopes been hand delivered or has the Royal Mail delivered them?

Next Door is no more of a scam than similar sites like Facebook
They are making their money from advertising

Doubt very much if the RM would have delivered letters with fake stamps.  No UK contact details for the company either.

It's not a scam. I've been on it for a while and its predecessor Streetlife for years. I like it because you can focus your membership just to your immediate neighbourhood or widen to include adjacent ones. It's mostly quite local, swapping recommendations, alerts of burglary etc, though as on here you get the occasional bore wanting to make political points/ bang on about brexit. No ads - for now anyway. I can't see that the privacy concerns are any different to signing up to nappyvalleynet.
