New restaurant on Northcote Road- Rosita and The Sherry

Postby Charlie1981 » Tue Nov 13, 2012 4:06 pm

Can't wait to try the new Spanish restaurant on the Northcote Rd. I went past the other day and looked at the menu- lots of seafood and meat cooked in authentic style and it looks as though Sherry is the speciality! Looks fab! Has anyone been there yet?

Went on Saturday night and it was fab.

Delicious food, great selection of wines, sherries, beers and cocktails and a really buzzy atmosphere. Also, very cheap considering the area and quality of the food.

The service was really friendly and the owners/managers approached for a chat. We sat at the bar for our drinks and food and it really added to the whole experience. It felt as though we were in some late night eatery in central Madrid.

Northcote Road looked like a ghost town on Sat night but it was really great to see this restaurant thriving in spite of this.

I agree- I went there with some friends on Tuesday evening and had a great time- fantastic atmosphere- really chilled out and the food was delicious. Haven't had Sherry in years (didn't even think I liked it) but we tried a couple of those too and I have changed my opinion now. Really recommend it- it's something different- we had a great night.

Not great for non drinkers then? Is sherry in just about everything?

Ha ha.....no, not Sherry in everything- but you feel you need to try that if that's their speciality. They have wine, Cava- all the usual stuff too and children were dining there so plenty of soft drinks.

Is it a child friendly place? High chairs? Kids menu? I don't plan to take my kid there after 6pm but was thinking about Saturday's brunch?

Now THAT is a review

How wonderful.

No punches pulled but still objective and not at all offensive

I've just tried to book a table for Friday to be told that they only take reservations at 7pm or 9.15pm. Slightly irritating as 7pm is too early and 9.15 is too late. I'm all for restaurants in town trying to turn their tables on an evening but surely we haven't got to the point of only allowing two sittings yet on Northcote Road...?!!!!?

Tigger they do the same in Lola Rojo and to be honest it annoys me SO much that I have not been to Lola Rojo for 2 years (despite the fact that I love the place and the food !!). If the booking system is the same at Rosita and The Sherry I won't be going there either. I understand that Resaurants have to try and pack in as many clients as possible - but last time I was trying to book Lola Rojo it was for a table for 8 people and to be honest with such a big group we would have probably spent as much money as two small tables in two separate seating. I am so with you - I don't want to eat at 7.00 because frankly I am still putting my kids to bed and 9.30 is too late !

Thanks for all of your feedback. We appreciate all of your comments.
We have built this new restaurant following on from our experience with Lola Rojo. We have been open since the 6th November and have enjoyed the buzz so far. Due to high demand in the lead-up to Christmas, we have introduced double bookings and it may be that in January we will no longer need to do this.

Aside from the restaurant (which requires pre-booking), there is a bar with 16 seats that work on a first-come, first-served basis. So if you would like to come along at 8.30pm etc, there may be space available or if not- we can tell you how long the wait would be.

We will take learnings and continually aim to improve. Just to address the points from above, we are a child-friendly restaurant. We have booster chairs and some great menu options that appeal to children.

Looking forward to meeting you all- please come to say hello and continue to give us your helpful feedback.

My name is Cristina and I own the restaurant with my husband Antonio.

PS) We are currently designing our website, in the meantime- here is a link to our Facebook page with a Time Out Review.

Hi Cristina,

Thanks for your reply earlier today. Whilst I appreciate that you will be busy in the run up to Christmas, and want to capitalise on this, by doing so you potentially alienate a big proportion of the population you serve by your two sittings policy. Most of the people on this site have children and as the post by BDB said, at 7pm most families here will still be putting kids to bed and by 9.15/9.30 we're virtually ready for bed ourselves!!! Of course you may just want to woo the younger crowd in which case good luck, however I would have thought a more flexible approach on your table seating (with available tables, rather than just perching at the bar) might win you more family orientated friends.

Personally I doubt if I'll be coming as even if the rule is relaxed in January there are plenty of other establishments on Northcote Road that are prepared to be more flexible in their booking policies whether it's Christmas or not...!!

I was going to go but the 7-9 or 9.15pm has slightly put me off as another poster rightly said, I can't physically be there for 7pm as I am putting my son to bed & by 9.15, I'm ready for bed myself.

For me 7.30 is perfect as then you can get there, have a couple of hours & be done by 9.30 & home in bed by 10pm :)

I think I might leave it until the 2 sittings comes to an end.
