1. Putting the police back on the beat might help. I haven't seen a police officer walking around for months.
2. It used to be the case that there were police officers assigned to large schools which enabled pupils to have an informal relationship with the police.
3. Putting knife arches in schools will only stop pupils taking knives into school. It will do nothing to prevent those who have been "off rolled" (unofficially excluded) from schools (mainly academies) from carrying knives. There are at least 20,000 young people for whom there is no information about where they are during the day.
This article puts the figure of young people out of educational establishments as much higher.
4. The way of judging schools does not use the progress pupils make while they are at the school. At the moment this encourages schools, particularly some named academy trusts, to actively advise pupils that they are not welcome in the school because they will not support claims to have improved exam results.
Education Datalab have done work on this.
It is not schools which decide overall education policy and destroying the cooperation between schools by forcing them to compete against each other does not help.
