Changes to normal parking rules in Southfields will come into effect for one day only this weekend in response to a large-scale event being staged at the home of the Wimbledon tennis championships.
On Sunday, 19 May a charity concert is to be held at The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) in support of the Wimbledon Foundation.
In order to protect the interests of local residents and prevent them from suffering parking difficulties, changes are being made for one day only to discourage large numbers of concert-goers from travelling to the area by car.
As a result parking controls will operate on Sunday between 8.30am and 8.30pm in the following roads to protect residents from an influx of cars driven by tennis fans. Residents in these streets who have an existing parking permit will not be affected and will be able to park as normal.
The affected roads are:
Augustus Road (between Wimbledon Park Road and Albert Drive)
Bathgate Road
Bedgebury Gardens
Blincoe Close
Boddicott Close
Campen Close
Egham Close
Esher Gardens
Frimley Close
Gartmoor Gardens
Gonston Close
Kingscliffe Gardens
Murfett Close
Penner Close
Princes Way (between Wimbledon Park Road and Albert Drive)
Queensmere Road
Sawkins Close
Southdean Gardens
Thursley Gardens
Victoria Drive (between Wimbledon Park Road and Albert Drive)
Wimbledon Park Road
Woodspring Road
Motorists who have an existing permit for the S1 and Q1 parking zones or for the FC and VD housing permit zones will be entitled to park in any of these streets.
All households in these streets have also been issued with two free temporary permits which can be used by their visitors.
These temporary permits should also be used by residents who normally park in any of the streets listed above that are not normally subject to parking controls.
People who need to use these temporary permits should place them on the dashboard, so they can be clearly seen. They will not need to be displayed if the vehicle already has a valid resident, business, housing, resident visitor permit or a disabled person's blue badge.
These temporary visitor permits remain the property of Wandsworth Council and are not for resale.
Anyone caught attempting to sell these permits will face legal action.
All the affected roads will display signs informing residents and visitors of the changes. These signs will be prominently displayed on lighting columns and signposts in each road.
Signs will be placed on the perimeter of the zone to warn motorists that they are entering a restricted parking area.
Residents are also being advised that some parking bays in the event zone, especially along Wimbledon Park Road (common side between Bathgate Road and Woodspring Road), Bathgate Road and Queensmere Road will be suspended for the duration of the entire at the request of the police. All cars will be essentially banned from parking along these roads.
Some other roads will also see parking bays temporarily removed and an extension to the hours of the waiting restrictions.
Any vehicle parked incorrectly is liable to receive a parking ticket and may be relocated.
Different rules apply for parking on housing estates in the area. The housing department provides its tenants and leaseholders with permits and visitor permits which are unaffected by the changes to the rules on parking on the public highway. Anyone who unlawfully parks their car on an estate without displaying a valid permit is liable to receive a parking ticket.
For more information about these parking arrangements people can call (020) 8871 6660 and then choose option two from the automated service to be directed to the right team. This number should also be used if local residents require additional temporary visitor permits.
