Wandsworth Arts Fringe starts this week

The Wandsworth Arts Fringe kicks off on Friday (June 9), with more than 130 events taking place over 17 days at multiple venues all over the borough.

And to make sure everyone can join in the fun, there are loads of free activities and events, including fun things for families to do together, with tickets for all live performances from free to £20.

Councillor Kemi Akinola, Wandsworth Council’s Deputy Leader and cabinet member for the voluntary sector, business engagement and culture said: “Launched in 2009, WAF now attracts close to 20,000 people every year to Wandsworth’s streets, parks, and venues with its exciting and eclectic line-ups. Community-minded at heart, but always with big aspirations, WAF is a unique melting pot of creativity from both local and international artists.”

Week one highlights include:
The Windrush Anniversary Concert, June 9 (pictured below). Also part of Wandsworth Council's Black History 365 celebrations, Pegasus Opera’s Windrush 75th Anniversary Concert features top classical singers with music by composers of African, Caribbean and Asian heritage. Read More

Farm2City Community Open Day, June 10. Shallowford Farm is coming to Providence House, Battersea. Also part of the Wandsworth Great Big Green Week, this is a chance to meet the animals and explore ideas around conservation, farming and the natural world. Read more.

Alton, A Place I Call Home, June 10. A multi-generational theatre project performed by residents of the Alton Estate in Roehampton, celebrating the past, present and future. Read more

There’s also entertainment for children from The Unicornosaurus at Balham Baptist Church and The Little Red Hen puppet show and Froggy’s Famous Fanclub, both at multiple venues.

Help make London’s first community-led social and colour therapy sculpture on the Alton Estate. Happy Puffs (pictured below) is a series of fun installation and sculpture making workshops from Jue 12-16. Read more

Hear music performed by young people from schools across the borough at the WAF Schools Music Summer Showcase on June 13 at the Wandsworth Civic Suite. Read more.

Beans on Film from June 14 is a film festival created by and for people with learning disabilities. Read more.

Joy (pictured below) on June 9 from youth theatre project Group 64 explores what it means to be young in the modern world. Read more.

Addicts and Those Who Love Them runs from June 13 at Wandsworth Town Library and is an exhibition of portraits and words from, around, with and about addiction. Read More. 

Endz Jazz Soul at World Heart Beat on June 15 showcases the best emerging musicians from across London. Read More

The Wandsworth Street Concerts start on June 14 with the Britten Canticles. Read more

Plus loads more comedy, theatre, music, exhibitions, cabaret, workshops and dance at many venues all over the borough including The Arches at St Mary’s Church, Putney, The Bedford in Balham, the Alton Arts Hub in Roehampton, the Royal Academy of Dance in Battersea and All Saint’s Church in Tooting.
