Local Traffic / Olympic chaos!

Postby kewty » Mon Jul 09, 2012 12:18 pm

Has anyone else noticed how bad the traffic has got since the traffic lights have been re-phased for the Olympics?

I live near Clapham Common Westside, and the traffic on the Avenue seems to be constantly solid, and the traffic on Broomwood Road is now a constant flow as it is being used as a shortcut.

I can't believe we have to put up with this for the whole summer - do you think Wandsworth/lambeth will do something about it if we complain enough?

I agree this is quite bad. Friday afternoon traffic was backed up along Magdalen Rd because the lights are rephased on Garratt Lane. People were turning around rather than queue. It's even worse on Kimber Rd - less than 10 second green light to turn onto Merton Rd. Does anyone know the process for raising this with Wandsworth? Or do we follow standard procedure?

I called Wandsworth about light on Bellvue and Trinity where they'd eliminated green arrow. They wouldn't acknowledge they'd done anything, rather blamed it on possible road works having reset lights incorrectly. Now I notice Burntwood is backed up, but this could be because of Garratt Lane? I can't wait to get out of town the traffic has gotten so bad. Why would messing up the lights be helpful for Olympics?

Do call Wandsworth and make complaint: 0845 3051234

Thanks for the number. I rang TFL who confirmed many junctions in our area have been recalibrated for the Olympics.

The woman who took the call was very nice and told me if enough people complain they would have to look into changing the calibration to let more cars through. There's an email address as well :
londonstreets@tfl.gov.uk / 0845 3051234

Good luck x

Thanks for the numbers. The Garratt Lane/Kimber Road light has also been reprogrammed to 10 seconds which is absolutely ridiculous, traffic is backed up so far down Garratt Lane because of it and trying to turn right onto Kimber is a nightmare. Desperately need a filter light there anyway because it's the only place to turn right to get through to Merton Road until you get past Earlsfield and down to Summerstown.

OMG, the traffic has become so bad in the mornings! Since Monday it takes me longer to get from the top of Battersea Rise by Clapham Common to drop off my son in Kids Unlimited by Wandsworth Common than for my journey on from nursery to my office in Surrey off the A3! It has been really strange and I couldn't work out why there was so much more traffic on that stretch of road as once you get passed there the traffic really eases up and I have a clear run onto the A3 but I did notice today that at each of the four sets of traffic lights I go passed only about 3 cars get through. Thanks so much for the number, I will call now to let them know and hopefully they will change the lights back to keep the traffic moving.
