Cornwall or Devon holiday recommendations please for 15 +

Postby mummySW18 » Fri Aug 30, 2013 9:46 pm

Hi

We are hoping to go away on holiday next summer as an extended family. Parents, siblings, husbands and children. We will be 10 adults and 8 children aged 9-6 months...

We are looking for self catering house or maybe 2 cottages together that will fit us all in and hope someone may have stayed somewhere that they might recommend.

It has to be v close to a sandy beach/ and opportunity for boating activities.
Not too expensive

I've looked at John bray Cornish holidays but his biggest house isn't quite big enough!

Would be so grateful if anyone had any ideas. Doesn't have to be Cornwall, could be Devon or Pembrokeshire?

Thanks very much in advance if you can help.

We've just stayed at Hembury Court, Devon with extended family. We hired the whole place, (4 cottages, all adjoining) it has games room, BBQ area, hot tub, communal kitchen/dining. It's v nice but not 'boutique' style. You do have to drive to the coast but it worked v well, we went to the coast every day.

We have just stayed at West Pusehill Farm Cottages in N Devon between Bideford and Ilfracombe. Not the most glamourous of cottages (reminded me of childhood holidays) but clean with good facilities for children - heated outdoor pool, animals to feed and a playground/BBQ area. There are 11 cottages of varying sizes. There is a gastro pub two mins away (Pig on the Hill, Westward Ho), Westward Ho beach is 5 mins drive away and the rest of N Devon on your doorstep although we didn't explore much because of our 8 month old. Must visit: The Big Sheep - strangely a theme park based around sheep is a great day out and excellent value for money for 3-about 10 year olds.

Downside is the bedding but take pillows and you will be fine :D

I'm looking for something similar but only for 10 people, and have been looking at www.thebigdomain.com

I can't recommend them as I haven't used them, but I've found various ideas from their site - if that helps!

Can't recommend anywhere in Devon or Cornwall but have stayed here before. Lovely house and right on top of huge, sandy beach.

Not Devon or Cornwall, but take a look at www.inishcoo.com - a big, very comfortable, house on an island with 6 double bedrooms, one single and a dormitory which sleeps 8 kids. Amazing beaches, boat trips included and swallows and amazons style holiday. I can give more details if required. There are flights via Dublin to Donegal airport which is about 10 minutes away from the port you would be collected from. It works out quicker than driving to Cornwall if you get the connection in Dublin to work well. There are 3 small cottages on the island which are rarely used so usually you get the 116 acres, over 5 beaches, fresh water lake etc. just for you.

Have you had a look at Owners Direct? There are tons of places on there and the rates can often be very reasonable as you are going directly through the owners.

Try Helpful Holidays, they have a range of houses in Cornwall and Devon. Their service is superb and their descriptions of each property honest and accurate. Their website is easy to use too and has real time availability and loads of internal photos.

Have you tried looking at a book called Big House Party?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0954 ... UTF8&psc=1

They have plenty of ideas for large group properties- up to 65 I think!
