Getting baby to the airport

Postby VickyM » Tue Nov 30, 2010 11:26 pm

We fly to Australia in a week and have just discovered we can't take our 6mth old in a minicab & our car seat will not fulfill the legal requirement in Australia. Can anyone advise a company or alternative method of getting 2 adults, a toddler (4yrs old), and baby, with a lot of luggage to the airport? I'm getting desperate.....

Hi

I've used South West Cars in Earlsfield, they have mini vans and are very helpful. I put my Sons car seat in the van then they kept it for me then put it back in when they came to pick us up again. Alternatively you could get someone to pick it up and drop it back off if you didn't feel
Comfortable leaving if there.

Try Addison Lee. A lot of their vehicles have integrated car seats that they can set up for you. I have used one before but I think my daughter was about 11 months old at the time so you'll have to check from what age they are suitable. Good luck!

I think many mini cab companies provide baby car seats, and booster seats for older kids. I've used:

Herald Car Hire
86735522
Wandsworth Common

Only stressful part is making sure its installed properly - not so easy when leaving in the early hours of the morning racing to the airport!

Good luck.

Thank you all so much. I had totally forgotten about the option to leave the carseat with a cab company. I will get it sorted tomorrow, such a relief. :)

Have you thought about driving to the airport yourself, dropping everyone and luggage at the terminal and one person going off to the long term car park and getting the courtesy bus back to the terminal. ! The prices aren't that steep.! Heres a link: http://www.holidayextras.co.uk/partners ... gent=WR765

The other alternative could be as someone else mentioned Addison Lee, they are very good, a bit higher priced than some local mini-cabs but great service, they also do a pick up service for when you arrive back !

It might be worth looking into valet parking services depending how long you're going for?
We've found that it works out cheaper to use valet parking for a 2/3 week holiday than it does for a return mini cab from the likes of Addison Lee. We've done it a few times now with no problem.
Don't look at the ones run by the airport as they're more expensive but lots of budget ones run the same service except that they might park your car quite a few miles away in a secure carpark.
