Provence holiday recommendations needed

Postby nightmonkey » Sun Feb 05, 2017 6:29 am

Hi, we have flights booked to Marseille for a week in Provence or the Côte d'Azur. Can anyone recommend any traditional towns or villages to rent a villa in? All we are looking for are some family friendly restaurants to choose from and maybe proximity to a lake/beach for day trips. We have three under three so convenience is important. Alternatively, are there any resort complexes in the region where we can rent a self catering house/chalet but still use the resort's pool, restaurants, activities etc? Something like the Martinhal but on the French coast?
Thanks!

Hi nightmonkey, when are you travelling? The Camargue is great for kids. Loads of local outdoor activities to try but also close to safe beaches. Lots of laid back food options. You could try to rent a Mas (local word for farm or ranch house) or stay in one. The Mas de Calabrun is family friendly, good food on site, their own horses at the back and they pack good picnics if you want to take one out with you. Lovely pool. Natural setting. Only about 10 mins to Saintes Maries- main town and good sandy beach. Straightforward drive down from Marseille. Easy to stop in Arles for a break if needed. Aigues Mortes is a town not too far from the main route through the Camargue - medieval, walled, plenty of eateries for a different day out. If you need any other info let me know.

Le Mas des Oules has a lot of facilities and could be a lovely relaxed setting. I gave more details on my blog here (I am not affiliated with them at all, I just like blogging about nice places for families): http://fromthepoolside.com/mas-des-oule ... g=provence

There are also other ideas here

and a few more ideas here

Otherwise look at boutiqueboltholes.co.uk, they have a lot of recommendations for family rentals.

Have a great time

I used to live just outside Aix en Pce and it's gorgeous as others have said.
Les baux-de-provence is just gorgeous. Salon de Provence is also nice. As is St Remy de Provence, once home to Princess Caroline and her offspring. Very picturesque.
Such a lovely part of the world.
You'll definitely need a car though.
