Travelling from Gatwick with micro scooter

Postby dhcwong » Tue Dec 12, 2017 2:07 pm

Hi fellow parents, we are headed to Ireland for Christmas and my 2 yo son is bored of the pram and super talented at scooting. Have any of you managed to take a scooter on as carry on luggage? My scooter is old and doesn’t fold in half or come apart easily.

What a beautiful place to spend christmas!

May I ask which airline you are flying with? It will be down to the discretion of the airline however it may come under sports equipment which can incur an extra fee depending on the airline.

Never tried having a scooter around the airport, but we used (and are still using) the Trunki cases. Children can drive themselves around, or you can pull them, and it's their hand luggage to put their own stuff into, which they love. Might that be an option?

Thank you. I am flying with BA. might just end with using the travel pram as my boy still naps.

We asked EasyJet this last year, and were told if it was bigger than hand luggage size (and a micro scooter in one piece is) we would have to check it in. Trunkis are a good idea but I found them cumbersome to carry to and from the airport. It is worth knowing that Gatwick have their own kids' buggies for use in the terminal - you can pick them up at the family security lane, and well worth it if there are any delays or if it is a 15 min walk to your gate. We also used a Littlelife back carrier at that age, my son would even nap in it. BA were always fine with the size even though it was bigger than hand luggage size. Have a lovely trip!

Normally you check them in for free like a pram. Just smile and look hassled and as long as you have a kid with you you can normally check in anything you like for free
