State of Clapham Common main pond

Postby muddyboots » Wed Mar 08, 2023 2:53 pm

Hi,

I’m shocked at the complete lack of maintenance and state of disrepair of the pond. The whole area looks like a dump.

I encourage those who agree to email Lambeth parks as it’s the only hope to get some action.

They’ve stopped showing emails on their website but think this one is still relevant :parks@lambeth.gov.uk

They happily push for blanket approval for events, but fail to re-invest enough cash or maintain the common to a satisfactory standard.

Hi muddyboots
Most parks and green spaces have "Friends" groups whose main aim is maintaining their local green space.  I see that Clapham Common has one but, not being local, I have no idea how active it is.  It may be worth contacting them as they may be already be aware of this situation and should have a direct connection to the right department at the Council.  Thank you for being concerned about your local area and wishing you all the best

Hello Muddyboots:  The Friends of Clapham Common (website in Sarah Johnson's post) are tremendously active & passionate about the Common.  Worth getting in touch with them.

Regarding the events and lack of reinvestment into the common, I and others are joining a council panel Teams call to object to the proposed 2024 events for this specific reason.

Please send me any statements you’d like incorporated or if you’d like to join these yourself.

This objection process last year, in part, meant that there are no large disruptive common events in 2023, so they do work!

Well done, Nickname 44!  Good luck with your objections:  the large-scale events on the Common are totally disruptive to the area & do enormous damage to the Common itself.
