We have decided on sending our son to the outstanding local primary and have denied the offers from private.
Yes, a class of 30 is big in comparison, but there will be two teachers in the class. If I didn’t think he’d be able to handle it or had special needs, then I would send him private.
Also what I liked was that if kids at the outstanding state need extra help, this is provided for (for free), some private primaries charge parents extra for this.
We shall do private tutoring from y5 for the 11 plus exams to get into the london day schools. Looking at the leavers destinations for the outstanding state, a lot of the kids go onto private secondary schools. When looking at the destinations at the private primaries, lots went onto boarding schools and there was an 13+ exit, so not a huge support for 11+ exams (which I would have expected for 25k a year). Also, I hear a lot of private school kids get tutoring on the side.
All the best for September!
