Any experience with Community Fibre? Reliable? Or price too good to be true?

Postby SouthLondonDaddy » Thu Jun 08, 2023 10:44 pm

Does anyone have experience with Community Fibre?
Their prices seem the cheapest in the area at the moment, so much so that I wonder if there's a catch, or if it's just introductory offers.

Their 150 Mbps packages are about £10-12 cheaper than all the other providers - which is great, but not if it means an unreliable connection and an unresponsive call centre. We don't work from home full time but we WFH a bit and we need a reliable connection.

Thanks!

Installed CF about 3 months ago after they cabled our road. Got rid of Virgin who had provided a dreadful service.

Excellent experience. We opted for the cheapest package as there are only 2 users in the house and we aren’t into gaming which uses a lot of bandwidth.

Installation was v quick and we’ve had 100 mbs speeds ever since.

You do need a mesh system to get WiFi coverage everywhere. We bought an Eero system from Amazon rather than renting from CF. Only about £200 and you’ll own it within 2 years.

Only one minor issue: if you take their land line service then it’s great in the UK where calls to both landlines and mobiles are free but there is NO overseas service. You can receive calls from overseas but not make them. It’s a minor hassle as we just Skype if necessary but if you’re working from home and need an international service you will need to buy your telephone service elsewhere.

Would I recommend? Definitely.

Mixed is the honest answer.

I’ve been using them for our business since 2017/8.

It is way better than VM can ever be and it is a true my symmetrical service which is wonderful for uploading massive files or backing up your computer.

Line speeds are really good.

But and there is a big but…..when things go wrong support and response is terrible. I had a major outage due to CF upgrading some of their kit offsite. Couldn’t get any help or response. This took our business servers offline.

In the end I resorted to contacting a former CF employee, whose mobile I had, and they contacted someone else in CF. All fixed the next morning.

Now bear in mind getting BT/OR/VM to fix anything is also impossible if it is a complex fault…

Part of the issue has been scaling from a cottage industry run by enthusiasts that specialised in council MDUs. Doing businesses and SDUs is a real change in mindset.

In summary I’d still recommend CF as they are super value and a robust service.

I would recommend Community Fibre yes. We set up a coworking office space on Northcote Road and fast internet for our members is crucial. Having shopped around and been offered deals that were either too expensive or too good to be true, we opted for Community Fibre. We opted for the Hyperfast deal and we get upload and download of over 400mbps. Just a word to the warning, when I signed up, I totally missed the very small print on the confirmation email that said there would be a £300 set up charge. Do check. I'm hoping they lay more cable in the area as we are moving to the edge of Wandsworth Common in October and would prefer to have CF there also.

We’ve recently joined Community Fibre and have found the speeds to be amazing. Having been with Virgin Media who had increasingly worse service over time (the Internet would go down pretty much every Friday), we took the plunge and haven’t looked back. We were also going to get their TV package too but were told not to bother and to just get an Amazon Firestick which we did and that has also worked brilliantly, we’re delighted with both after such a miserable time with VM.

As someone else said, you may well need a booster to get the internet to go to all rooms. We got Google nests when with VM and it works just as well with CF and was easy to switch.

For anyone looking to join CF, I have a referral code - if you sign up, we each get £100 Amazon vouchers! https://www.communityfibre.co.uk/friend ... xVLQrr3VaV

If you decide not to go with CF I highly recommend Zen Internet who are the top Which recommended provider. We switched to them after yet another dreadful experience with Virgin and they’ve been fab. No problems whatsoever.

As another disenchanted former VM 'customer', I ditched them and went for CF about a year ago. Installation was quick and professional. The quality of the gear supplied is excellent, and the speed has been reliable. Oddly,  they don't provide email addresses but that is no huge burden. VM terminate your email service 6 months after their contract is terminated so I had to change to generic email addresses - no great shakes. I reckon CF is very good value for money. Recommended.
