Paying for nanny parking?

Postby Houseofgirls » Thu Oct 05, 2017 9:46 pm

Hello, I'd love some advice on this please!
I'm about to hire a nanny ahead of going back to work. She has her own children and will be using her car to drop them off at school before coming on to our house, which means she needs a parking permit for our road and surrounding area. It is quite expensive and not something we'd planned on needing to pay for (maybe naively?). Is it generally something that we should pay for? Or would it be unreasonable to suggest we split the cost? She seems like the perfect fit for our family so I want to be as accommodating as possible and was wondering what the norm is as this is the first time we've hired a nanny.

Generally speaking its her responsibility to pay for her transport to get to work. I can appreciate that maybe she needs to take her kids to school by car so that she can be at your house as early as possible, so I think offering to split the permit would be a nice gesture though not a requirement.

Will she be using the car to take your little one for any activities, or would she be happy to do so if needed in the future? If so, I would split the cost of the permit. Our nanny doesn't drive, so for certain activities they need to take the bus, the cost of which we obviously cover. I would also add that her having her own car may be of great benefit to you in the future.
Edit: most importantly I note you said she's a great fit for your family - if paying for the permit in full is a deal breaker, then for me personally I would pay it if you can afford to, as finding someone who you like and trust enough to look after the most precious thing you have is far far more difficult!

Hi - are you sure you can obtain a permit for her? We tried this for our nanny and the application was declined by the council on the grounds that it wasn't a necessary business expense. We now use daily permits.
