Hello all,
when we got married one of our wedding gifts was a Magimix 2000 - back in the late '80s this was thought to be the quality choice for a food processor.
Despite the bowl cracking (plastic bowls seem to be the weak point on an otherwise sturdy machine) it lasted 26 years until the replacement bowl's handle went and we decided it was about time our sturdy and reliable Magimix was replaced.
So 6 years ago we bought a Magimix 4200xl - very whizzy with 3 bowls so you could (allegedly) use the two smaller ones stacked inside for smaller jobs....In practice they were useless since in using one you dirtied the others..it also came with fruit juice blender, cream mixer etc etc when all we ever use it for is batter and cake mixing and chopping /shredding vegetables.
I was always suspicious of the thing since it seemed unnecessarily complicated and looked and felt too flimsy for the rugged work it had to do...and so it proved when the complex handle mechanism (to stop you starting it with the lid and/or chute off) exploded in a shower of tawdry plastic and tiny springs after 4 years..£45 bought a replacement but whilst slicing onions (surely a job a FP should handle easily) it jammed and made growling noises...Then ran slowly and now jams whilst shredding a small carrot...
Sorry about the long story but I'm lookinmg for recommendations for a machine that simply a) chops and slices vegetables with a choice of ,say, 3 grater/cutters, b) mixes batter and cake mix and c) has a simple blade for making soups and pulping fruits. Controls just need to be on, off and pulse.
Can anyone recommend a simple and sturdy quality machine that can handle meals for four (ie not a mini-unit) that will see us though for another 30 years???
