Superbloom at the Tower of London

Postby Community Editor » Mon Aug 15, 2022 3:00 pm

Superbloom is a new natural landscape, surrounding the Tower of London. This summer, for the first time, visitors will be able to walk through the moat to see this thriving new habitat for wildlife close up.

Over 20 million flower seeds were sown in the moat earlier this year. Designed to bloom and evolve over the course of the summer in harmony with nature, Superbloom has become a new haven for pollinators in London. Visitors can explore this remarkable space which celebrates the value of nature for wellbeing. In August, visitors can expect to see lots of yellow Tickseed and the emergence of some pink and purple Cosmos. Throughout the month, more seed heads will be visible. We are leaving these in place to help us reseed the moat, ready for next year.

What you can see now is Superbloom is entering into its next phase of a natural cycle, where nature starts to wind down, getting ready to bloom again next year. Flowers at the end of their lifecycle are essential for wildlife and when the display ends, the new natural landscape in the Tower of London moat will remain as a permanent legacy.

Accessing the Moat
You enter the moat via a fully accessible visitor entrance. Once in the moat, you can choose to climb the stairs and slide down into the moat on the four lane Superbloom slide! (please note, the slide will not be open in wet or very hot weather). Prepare to spend around 30 minutes exploring a one way route along winding willow-lined paths set to a specially commissioned soundscape with sculptural elements along the way. After your visit, relax and enjoy some food and drink along the Wharf

The Queen’s Garden
See the Queen's Garden, a special tribute to Her Majesty The Queen this Platinum Jubilee year. Designed to be viewed from above, this picture garden is inspired by her 1953 coronation gown. In the centre, sits a glass crown, a reminder of the Tower of London’s ancient as home of the Crown Jewels, which as a member you can visit for free.
