Most popular antenatal class in area to create post-birth contacts?

Postby mayber » Fri Feb 24, 2023 1:18 pm

Hi there - I am pregnant with my second baby (early July) and as we just moved in the area, we don't know anyone. I am quite worried to have a lonely mat leave! I would be keen to take part to antenatal classes as a way to know other mums about to give birth at the same time. Is NCT the most popular around this area of London or some classes? Thanks a lot

Welcome to South West London and I hope you are settling in well.

There's loads of classes at Fresh Ground on Battersea Rise

Busy Lizzie is really popular (and for good reason):  https://busylizzy.co.uk/

Also worth checking out Nadia Raafat:  https://nadiaraafat.com/

Clapham mums is also a really supportive network:  https://www.claphammums.com/

Hope the above is a good start point for you

Welcome! We joined the local NCT group for my first in 2018 and met some (what I’m sure will be) life long friends there - one of whom I’m currently visiting in New Zealand! So it worked for us. Busy Lizzie looks great and I met mums through kids’ swimming lessons/baby sensory etc. I’ll still be on mat leave in July (December baby!) and happy to meet for a cuppa!

I’m still in touch with all my NCT group. A couple are close friends. Our kids are 18! I’m not sure I learnt too much about childbirth but having the support of friends going through exactly the same stages as you is invaluable.

NCT is great for finding mums expecting at the same time as you as they group by due date so you’re all in it together! Also singing! Great for endorphins, a brain challenge, hanging out with other mums without need for the small talk, learning some fab songs that help you through the tough times (rather than driving you nuts! One more round of wheels on the bus, anyone!!! 🫣). And cake! The Clapham group isn’t running at the moment but singing mamas have a group in streatham and one in herne hill. 😃🎶❤️

Oh and Eilish Saba does a second baby class which I’ve heard good things about. She matches you up with people who have similar age gap/live near you etc. you can search for it on Balham Mums on Facebook 👍🏻
