Hormone imbalance/ peri menopause specialist

Postby Londonlou » Wed Jan 26, 2022 7:02 pm

Hi, I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a private clinic or Doctor for hormone blood tests or investigations. I think I might have an imbalance or possible peri menopause but am getting nowhere with my GP.

Many thanks

Hi there

Dr Louise Newson is absolutely brilliant. She should get public recognition for her amazing work. She has a clinic Newson's Health - please google as I can't post link. She has an amazing App to track symptoms called the Balance App - it's free. She has a huge amount of free resources. She is on Instagram @themenopausedoctor Her Instagram, Balance App and resources are a great place to start to find out more about the menopause.

I see Dr Naomi Potter who is a menopause specialist who has a practice in Kingston. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Her website is menopausecare co uk - again I can't post links but put the relevant dots in. Again, she is on Instagram (it's where I started my journey 2 plus years ago) @menopause_care. She does weekly lives with Lisa Snowdon which are really informative, relatable and accessible.

Other brilliant people I have come across are

- Nigel Denby - @menopause_dietitian and his whole team and resource @harleystreetathomemenopause
- Liz Earle - @lizearleme

None of these people are jumping on the meno bandwagon! They have been menopause experts and women's health champions for many years

Hope this helps - there is help out there

I second all of the above - particularly Louise Newson, Naomi too who has a clinic at New Victoria Hospital.
If you are ‘getting nowhere’ with your GP then Louise has a lot of resources to hopefully get your GP to take this issue seriously - for you and other patients. I suspected I was peri at 42 and Thurleigh Rd were fantastic offering an immediate referral to the team at C and W.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you’re not feeling good.
I am a GP and would suggest you have a look at your practice website and consult with whichever Dr has a specialist interest in women’s health or menopause. They should be able to arrange you some bloods or refer you on to an menopause clinic if there are signs of perimenopause and they are not sure how to manage things. If you prefer just to go private at this point, I also think Louise Newson is excellent. The letters I get from her clinic are always comprehensive and with sensible treatment plans. The care always seems very patient centred. Good luck!

I really recommend Postcards from the Midlife podcast to keep you informed, amused and sane... its FB page is a mine of useful info. The podcast has wide appeal and a vibrant following.

I used Marion Gluck before she became famous and topical - around 17 years ago . I know the practice has grown . Sadly I had to stop 6 years ago because of breast cancer .

Before you spend a lot of money going the private route, do remember that you are entitled to be referred by your GP.

I spent 3 years of very disheartening appointments with doctors at Thurleigh Road Practice before finally speaking to the right person, getting a referral, a prescription for HRT and my symptoms were much less debilitating within weeks.

Many of the practitioners who fobbed me off are now jumping on the menopause bandwagon, setting themselves up as private consultants, appearing on social media with advice.

Menopause advice should not only be available privately and on social media. GPs should be held accountable for all those times they send women with obvious symptoms away.

Hi,

Totally agree with the above recommendations and am a huge fan of Louise Newson. Her ethos and no-nonsense approach are refreshing and she is a real menopause champion.

The menopause is also a time to consider your future risk of chronic diseases eg cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, dementia, some cancers, which can arise due to declining estrogen levels. Lifestyle plays a huge role in this, and can also help with alleviating menopausal symptoms.

I'm a healthcare professional and I run a health coaching service designed to help women make better lifestyle choices during the menopause.  Happy to have a quick chat if you're interested in lifestyle choices or how to go about preparing for menopause consultations with your physician.

Good luck - there is an incredible amount of good support and advice available to you!
