How much is your house insured for?

Postby CyclingLondon » Fri Oct 11, 2024 3:17 pm

Hi
Another question linked to my earlier one about buying a house.

I'm looking at content and buildings insurance quotes and it all seems a little odd.

I'm being quoted £250k to £350k as the rebuild costs of a house, as in that what is recommended by insurance company, but at the same time I know that quotes for side returns to kitchens etc can be £100k.

How is it possible that one can get "only" a kitchen extension for £100k yet a whole house is four times that?

I'm looking at a "standard" Victoria 3 bed terrace like we have all over London.

Thank you.

You can put your proposed house details into this calculator BCIS Public Rebuild Calculator
You have to register but it's free to use
It gives me £458,000 as the rebuild cost for a 4 bed terrace in SW12

This is just brilliant and makes so much sense.

Thank you.
