Kitchen Company Recommendations

Postby Wuddle » Mon Aug 12, 2013 8:01 pm

Hello

We are looking to replace our kitchen and I wondered if anyone would recommend the company they used? We are looking at at mid range as opposed to high end :D

Thanks

Mid-range is a tricky price area for obvious reasons.

Can I ask how much you're looking to spend?

One girl's mid range is anothers high end :-)

We did ours a few years ago but some of the lessons might be useful if I know we were in the same price bracket

We used Mark Plant based just opposite Wandsworth Town station a few years ago and again for a buy to let last year. Very helpful and go out of their way to make sure your kitchen is exactly right. They also spent hours with us going through different kitchen designs. They weren't the cheapest but for the money we got great quality and after-care and a good mid-range option. Much better (and cheaper) than the like of Magnet.

We used Magnet in Balham, not sure if they're still there (as I heard a developer is looking to build apartments on the space they occupy currently).

I know what people say about Magnet, but they did a brilliant job with our kitchen. Store staff were friendly and helpful, and so was the builder they used to install. Kitchen still going strong 2 years later without any problems at all.

Couple of things:
1) Make sure you go through all the costs, as the "base" kitchen needs lots of add-ons to be an actual kitchen. So don't be immediately wowed by the advertised price.
2) Haggle - we got freebies and extras thrown in, and some cost reductions. There's always scope to get a discount.
3) Buy your appliances, worktop, and splashback elsewhere - they're much cheaper. I recommend Balham Glass for the splashback.

Depends what you mean by mid range price but Sola Kitchens on Munster Road in Fulham are brilliant, all bespoke but really reasonably priced for the quality. Worth speaking to them to see what they can do for your budget. www.solakitchens.com

Try nynd.co.uk.

They are not based in Nappy Valley but do a lot of work round here/Wimbledon.

They will do design, fit, do any electrics, carpentry, decorating and what-have-you and basically recommend units at the pricepoint that you prefer. The founder trained with Roundhouse, so you're getting high end expertise but affordable.

We are really happy with the kitchen we had from them. They did some really nifty things with the space, finished on time and were really considerate of small children in terms of keeping stuff out of the way. We were also sourced some bits ourselves (e.g. wooden worktop my husband found online for 1/4 the normal price) to save money and they were totally with us on that.

18 months later, it still all looks way more expensive than it was - which is great.

Good luck.

Watching with interest this topic as I am also in the market for a new kitchen in our new house. Happy to consider either UK or German manufacturers as long as it is good quality, and not just looks (which makes the price higher but not necessarily translated into better quality).

We've just had a new kitchen fitted after doing a side return extension, by John Lewis of Hungerford (Fulham branch). Tania was our kitchen designer- she was great to work with, & went above & beyond the call of duty. The cost was mid-range and we're very happy with our new kitchen. We also chatted to Sola, lovely kitchens in showroom but ballpark figure was more than John Lewis of Hungerford. Hope that helps, good luck!

We also used sola kitchens. Very happy with the service and quality and it is a local business. It was a bit more than magnet, similar to SDS (northcote rd) and Harvey jones on price. There is more choice than is apparent from the website, when I last looked anyway.

Hello
If you are still looking, I can recommend David Tindall/ Poggenpohl on lavender hill.
They have the expensive Poggenpohl stuff upstairs and then 2 other high quality, German but not nearly as pricey companies downstairs.

They are not at all snobby about switching between the two, in fact they probably worked harder ( and I mean hours) than anyone else we met to tweak the design to meet our budget.

The best bit is that because they stock high end they have great vision and amazing graphics, design programs and expertise.

Ask for Jonathan, he is a lovely guy and really knows his stuff.

Check out Alno Haus. It is the only Alno dealer south of the river. The large showroom is at 5 Zennor Road, Balham, London SW12 0PS
