Recommendation for a loft conversion?

Postby LMM » Mon Jul 25, 2016 1:40 pm

Hi,
We are thinking about getting our loft converted. We already have designs and permit but need to get quotes for the actual building of it.
Can anyone recommend a loft extension company from recent experience?

Many thanks!

Loft conversion

Postby TheSwede » Mon Jul 25, 2016 4:05 pm

Hi

I live in Wandsworth/Earlsfield and was hoping to get some recommendation of Loft companies. I have been looking online but it seems to be a bit of a jungle out there so some recommendations from recent jobs would be much appreciated.

Hello TheSwede,

I’m Lindsey from Landmark Lofts and I’d be happy to help. Here are a couple of our completed projects in Wandsworth:

Alternatively, I'd be happy to set up a time for you to visit a loft in your area.

Feel free to contact us as well for a free design consultation. You can reach me at: 020 3150 0505 ext. 1018.

Best regards,

Lindsey

We had our loft in Dulwich done by South London Lofts - who outsource everything to Build London (a Lithuanian company they didn't tell us about!)

Build quality is OK but it's a complete shambles - no project mgmt, no-one speaks English and you spend all day on teh phone trying to get someone to turn up!

Hello

We have had quite a bit of work dome from AJS Building Solutions. They are very professional and their finish is immaculate. They have done extensive work for us at our work places too and although based in REast London do a lot of work in the Clapham and Wandsworth area.

Contact is Alex Stichbury- 07908 673 498

You should try Clapham Construction. They did our loft conversion and they've done kitchens/bathrooms for a few of our friends in the area (SW4 and SW11). We were really impressed with the quality of work given the good prices we got. Jake is the main guy I think. http://claphamconstruction.com/

I would second and negative views of Build London/Simply Loft/South London Lofts. These all seem to either be the same company or Simply subcontract out.

The salespeople for Simply were great, the price was very competitive, communication was prompt and clear, even the references checked out. Once we'd signed on the dotted line, Simply disappeared and Build London showed up. Then South London Lofts pitched their banner on our house.

Still, we thought we'd go with it. But it's turning into a nightmare. Communication is poor - our PM only shows up to collect cash but now won't correspond by phone and we're struggling to get them to even meet us on site. Our building project has gone wrong - they've built to the "wrong" plans even though Build London produced the only (ONLY) set of structural drawings and now they are trying to get us to pay more money to correct their mistakes.

I'll hold final judgement until after the issues have been talked through and any agreements made but I am simply (pardon the pun) not impressed.

That said, the builders on site seem like great guys and are amenable to making changes and the build work seems sound.

People said avoid D&B firms, but it's good to know if you're dealing with one firm or a mess of firms and individuals as we have ended up doing.

A friend of mine living near Wimbledon had her loft extension done and house refurbished throughout with Dekor Homes and they did a great job.

I am about to start work with them on my place and have found them extremely helpful and professional so far, might be worth getting a quote from them to compare what you have already.

I'd also advise against Simplylofts. They started a simple 6 week project in March and we're still waiting for them to finish. Just a joke of a company.
