baby playgroups in Clapham or Balham?

Postby claphamchick » Mon Jan 20, 2014 5:38 pm

I'm quite new to the area and have a 12 weeks old baby. I've found quite a few toddler playgroups but no baby playgroups. I would love to meet some local mums and keep my baby entertained. Could you recommend some good groups for very little ones please? I could go anywhere in Clapham or Balham. Thanks!

Don't have children so small anymore, but I used to go to the baby playgroups attached to churches on Malwood Road (Church of Ascension) and Poynders Road (Bonneville Church).
You could also joined a local NCT group - they usually provide you with details for baby playgroups, as well as mums who have babies of similar age to yours.

I have taken my daughter to Peepoe in St Stephens Church on Weir road since she was seven months. There is a soft play area for 'non-movers' and lots of mums bring their babies.

It's on Wednesday and Friday from 3pm - 5pm. £4 entry and they sell cakes and coffee.

Hi, there is a "bumps and babies" playgroup run by NCT, I think it's in St Michaels Church just off Northcote but I can't remember what day. Have a look on the NCT website and you should find it.

There's also the baby sensory room in Bolingroke one o clock club which I quite enjoyed occasionally with my daughter.

Sorry. I'm not known die my technical prowess. I'll cut and paste below:
Am first time mum on Northcote rd with a 2 month old but been here a while. Here are some fun things to do:
Monday 945 Northcote library
Rhyme Time
Mon 10.30-12 bumps and babes at at michaels church cob ham close
Mon 2.30-3.30 baby massage York gardens children's centre. Needs to be booked. The location isn't great but it's free and all the mums are lovely. It's free but the NCT also run classes where you could meet people.

Tue 11-11.30 rhyme time lavender hill library

Thurs 10.45-12.15 parenting course Thurleigh road practice. Needs to be booked

NCT post natal classes. See their website. Even if you know it all it's a good way to meet other mums.

Google baby swimming and there is a baby pool for tiny babies in Wandsworth. Lots of new mums inc my whole NCT group are doing this.

Also google buggy fit and Fit for a Princess, lots of new mums shedding the baby pounds.

Hiya,
Drop in playgroup At st marks on battersea rise three mornings a week, not sure which but if you call st marks they will fill you in. There is also a Friday morning playgroup at broom wood church but you need a place and have to put your name on the waiting list. It may not take too long. There is also fruity tunes on various days which is drop in.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone - this is super helpful! I really appreciate it.

2boysmum - yes, he is already signed up for Tumbletots in Broomwood Hall but it's from 6 months so he will start in May.

Thank you again!

Hi there

Welcome to the area (& congratulations on your new baby!).

We have one space left on the next NCT postnatal Early Days course starting next Tuesday (4 Feb). The course runs for six sessions and will take place in my home in Clapham Old Town. There are 7 women already booked on it with babies a similar age to yours.

Our groups are a friendly & supportive environment & are a great way to meet other new mothers. We cover topics such as sleeping, baby play and development, relationship changes, returning to work (or not), as well as things to do locally with a baby (although you’ve already had some great advice on this thread!). More details of the course, including how to book, are here: http://www.nct.org.uk/course/18285677.

The NCT hosts Open House Coffee mornings which is another way to meet other local parents. Details here: http://www.nct.org.uk/branches/clapham/ ... se-coffees

Also if you ‘like’ the Clapham NCT Facebook page you can get updates on our events.

Please feel free to PM or email me (alex@mooball.co.uk) if you would like to find out more.
