Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can recommend their builders? We are looking for a company to do a full house refurb on a Victorian terrace BTC - kitchen extension, loft, bathrooms, windows.... Would rather use one company for the whole job. Many thanks for your suggestions!

We just finished a huge refurbishment project to our house Between the Commons and couldn't be happier with the builders we used. Pace Construction Services - based in Richmond - were first recommended by friends of ours a few years ago and since then, we have been using them on different other property developments projects before deciding to go with them for the full refurbishment of our own house last year. We did the whole lot (2-storey side extension, loft extension, internal structural alterations, new bathrooms, new kitchen, new windows, etc.) Very satisfied with the quality of the work, Vas - the guy who runs it (vas@pacecs.co.uk, 07888827464) - is very reliable, a nice person to deal with, yet very thorough, doesn't like to cut corners on the job, even if it means more work for his team (despite being on a fixed price quote), able to make sensible suggestions leading to a high quality finish of the build. Happy to recommend him and his company!

Upsher Harrison are fantastic - I have worked with lots of builders on various sites renovating and extending houses around Nappy Valley and they are the best. Gentlemen builders - and I understand their prices are reasonable (not cheap but very good value).

have you noticed the same responses come in from the same people?

Do you want high end, low end, somewhere in the middle, absolutely the cheapest builder???

if you want to be in control, of design cost and time, then use an architect like www.atelierdb.com who have done lots of whole house refurbishments and extensions and can recommend suitable contractors.

in seriousness: don't put all your eggs in one basket: use a team of professionals to advise you on your needs: any cost outlay is more than recovered by:
- ensuring you make the most of your space: take time to design it (you will have to live with it for quite a while)!
- going to tender: call me crazy - but take your desires in drawn/spec format out to 3 or 4 builders to make sure you are getting the best solution for your brief.
- mitigating cost escalation from unknowns on site (ie all scheduled out at tender stage)

Hello, agree with GardenRosie, currently (5 weeks to the end) a complet renovation/extension with Upsher Harrison and we are very pleased with them. No problem to recommend them and they could not be more local, which in such projects help a lot.

We are in the process of using Diamond Construction for a very big renovation project in the Heaver Estate. It's been going on since last August and we're getting to the final stages. Overall we are very happy with them and their prices are competitive. They have done jobs for friends of ours too.
