Dog Fouling

Postby Casper » Thu Mar 27, 2014 10:16 am

Is it just me or has dog fouling on the pavements got worse? I live near Wandsworth Common westside and despite being very careful I have had to clean the wheels of my buggy for the second day in a row. And I am continually dodging dog mess when out pushing the buggy. It is just so disgusting!!! I have only once caught a dog owner and her dog ' in action' and I asked her to clean it up but she got abusive. What do you do about it? Avoid the mess as best as you can and get on with it?? It does infuriate me!!

Totally in agreement with you. I saw a woman letting her dog foul in someone's drive the other day. I haven't got a dog (grew up with them though) but would it not be possible to put the bag down under the dog's bottom so the poop lands on that? Because even if the owners clear it up there's still a bit of a mess left. Someone needs to invent a bag on the end of a stick that starts off as a big of flat plastic that you put under the dog's bottom then pull a handle to gather it all up and then press a button to drop it in a bin.

The bridge over the railway line in Wandsworth Common stinks - not sure if it's dogs, foxes or humans but it's pretty disgusting. I can vaguely understand that when people are exercising their dogs on the common they might miss the fact they've pooped but when it's on a pavement and the dog has to be on a lead it's just unbelievably anti-social not to clear it up. It's particularly bad around the kids' school - I'm sure people do it deliberately.

I've noticed it steadily getting worse over the past few years. I think it's now as bad as it was in the 1970s (and yes, sadly, I'm old enough to remember that.)

There was a time when you virtually never saw dog poo, now it's everywhere.

I suppose it's because certain people cottoned on to the fact that there is never anyone around to enforce the fines

I totally agree. We live on a through road to Wandsworth common and there is always dog poo.

The worst are the people who bag it but then leave it, so it can't even wash away in the rain - what are they thinking? the poo fairy will come and get it?

Disgusting behaviour. If you're not willing to pick up poo, don't get a dog.

ITS AWFUL we have had to clean the buggy wheels 6 times in 3 weeks! Wandsworth Council need to do something about this rather than just put signs up on trees that no one bothers to read.

It does my head in.

The day we were having new carpets fitted I found the biggest dog poo right outside our house and I had to clean it up so the fitters didn't tread ut through my house :(

I once told a woman who left her dog's poo on the park near us that she shouldn't have a dog if she couldn't clear up after it and she replied that I wasn't fit to have children... WTF?

It's FILTH.

it is exceptionally bad at the moment...Tooting Commons and the streets around SW12 are awful and they are usually pretty ok

can we all get in touch with the right people to complain properly?

Thank you for that motherbear. I will contact the council as I am so fed up with it.

It is disgusting, but then I am not a pet lover.

When I go to the common with my two young children I have to constantly be on the look out for dog **** as it is everywhere. Central London is not a place for dogs and our commons should not be places for these animals to be brought to relieve themselves. If you don't have a garden for your dog to do its business in then don't get a dog.

I have been walking my dogs on Wandsworth Common for the past 7 years and always, always pick up and bin (and sometimes other people's as well if it's in the middle of a path!). Over the past year or so I have definitely noticed an increase in people not picking up. Fellow dog walkers and I have been chatting about this lately and we have all seen similar incidents involving mainly groups of women walking and chatting and not taking any notice of their dogs- and when you, politely, let them know their dog has pooped-the look of disdain is unbelievable-quite who they think should be picking up after their dogs I'm not sure. The other group of people are joggers/runners who are so far ahead of their dogs they wouldn't know if they had fouled let alone be able to find it and clean it up! I don't want to walk in dog mess any more than the next person and I'm sick of these people who are giving the rest of us a bad name.

Well I am a dog owner and I would die not to bag and bin the poo.
Ring up Wandsworth Town Hall. It may need a few more notices, warning of the fine. The dog owner that was abusive is typical of the Mentality that would let their dog foul. Shame you couldn't get a pic of "Doggie pooing in the wrong place" Be careful please you have got to realise that these people are not quite normal and could be more vicious than their dogs.
Phone the Council. We all pay rates.

Now that someone's already put gender in the mix I would note that it seems that this issue is limited to a particular ethnicity.

I really think it's dangerous to mention who does it. Don't even go there

Wandsworth Council is not interested in cleaning up dog fouling, take a look at the reports here: http://www.10000dogturds.com
