Another "Broomwood rule" - myth or not? Post Reply

So I've just read (on another site) that Broomwood female staff aren't allowed to wear trousers.

Is this true? Or is it another myth that just gets repeated like the "hats and gloves at sports day" one?

Can anyone confirm?

Both of the children I nanny for attend Broomward, and I have seen staff wear trousers. The Teachers always look smart, as do the children. I personally love the school, the children seem to thrive.

When my daughter attended Broomwood (2010-11) female staff were not permitted to wear trousers. Maybe they've got with this century now?

I know about this, really I do!

So it is not true, you can wear jeans.

This rumour keeps doing the rounds and because it feels like it *could* be true it refuses to die, but I can, categorically, tell you ITS. NOT. TRUE.

However, the school does not discourage the rumour.

I am sure those of you who have actually been to or visited the school know that it does lend itself to a certain demographic.

And I use that phrase politely

The vast majority of the mums are 4x4 driving SAHM with hubby in the City/Law etc with a dog and a bob. I am not (I AM NOT) doing those people down but that is the market this school actively targets.

They do not want to be inclusive so they're quite happy to have these rumours circulate as the sort of people who think "goody, I like the idea of that" are the sort of people they want.

All my friends are very happy there!

I teach tennis at Broomwood and have done for many years. I also know and teach a lot of the parents and children. I've heard "many rumours" over the years some way worse than the 'no trousers' one.

I've always found the pupils, teachers etc to be really good. Obviously you could say that I wouldn't post anything bad, but then again I didn't have to post at all.

Interesting! So MadCurls it sounds like there may be some truth behind the myth after all.

Tooposh I suspect you may be right about their targeted demographic. Question is though, are the other private schools nearby any different...?

Obviously parents at any private school are going to have a high income level (particularly with local house prices the way they are ) but I wonder if the parent demographic at different schools is different in other ways eg are there more working mothers at some schools?

Hi pie81 - the main difference I found is that Broomwood is predominantly British - not sure about the demographics as I didn't really look into this. I have lots of lovely friends at Broomwood and they will openly tell you that there are very few non British people at the school.

I asked at our interview with the headmistress as we are both not British and we were looking for a school with a bit more of an "international feel" and she told us that they have very few international pupils.

Doesn't necessarily mean that its a negative by the way - it just was just not for us !

I am a Broomwood mum and I certainly don't fit all of the stereotype. I am not English and don't have a huge car but I don't work at present. There are lots of working mums. I do care about education and my children are progressing very well at Broomwood and it has just an amazing independent inspection. I'm not sure why people seem to want to rubbish Broomwood in this way. My experience is that Broomwood mums are amazing. When my youngest wasn't sleeping and I had to make a batch of lasagne (or the mince would have gone bad), one of the mums took the ingredients off me, told me to get some sleep and returned two huge lasagne's to me that evening along with my children whom she had collected from school. That may not sound too amazing but when you're dead on your feet that's the nicest thing that anyone can ever do for you and I have loads more examples. There is a wonderful sense of community at Broomwood with everyone looking out for each other. I honestly don't know whether the teachers are allowed to wear trousers or not. All I know is that they are amazing and just to clarify I wear jeans every single day!
