Moving to Between the Commons and Looking for Info

Postby lunalu2 » Mon Nov 01, 2010 1:16 pm

Hi Mums
I am so happy to have found this website! We are moving to Between the Commons from Primrose Hill NW London. I've only been in London 2 years (Am American married to an Italian) as we were re-located for my husband's job. We're expecting baby 2 this spring and decided to make the move to SW11 as it seems like a lovely place for families. I'd love some feedback on:
1) playgroups for 2 yr olds? (I have a 2 year old daughter)
2) nursery suggestions for 2 year olds (for mornings only) we were sorted to start at a nursery here in prh but now starting from scratch and reading posts seems like it's not likely we'll get in anywhere as people go on lists after birth...yikes!
3) activities in area (i.e. we were in gymboree, monkey music, dance, art here in Primrose Hill and not sure what and where the good classes are in BTC)
4) pregnancy/prenatal yoga or pilates or other mum to be activities
Thanks!!!
Adina

Hi there,

I am sure you will LOVE the area, there's so much to do for families and it has a real community feel-we have lots of lovely friends round here.

In answer to your questions:

1) Our favourite is 'Rissadan' on a Friday morning at 10.45-11.30 am at the Methodist Church on Clapham High st (short walk over Clapham Common) not a 'playgroup' as such, but more a structured play with music, learning, bubbles, a story and an art activtity. Very social too! Also try NCT run Chitter Chatter at Battersea Arts Centre (Lavender Hill) between 9.30-11.45 (2 sessions) on Mondays... I'm sure other people will have suggestions too.

2)Morning spaces for nurseries round here do tend to go pretty quickly... still worth ringing round though...Can't really help with which ones although I've heard good things about all the following:
Broomwood Montessori on Kyrle/Broomwood Rd
Mouse House on Mallinson Rd (V. oversubscribed though!)
Alphabet Nursery (I think?) in Chatham Hall on Northcote Rd
Marmalade Cat
Barnaby Bright (Clapham Common Northside)

And of course there are also day nurseries (as opposed to nursery schools) such as Northcote Gardens but not sure whether or not they do just mornings.

3)Monkey Music here is great-we do a class at Northcote Rd Library. Have a look at their website for details. My daughter is too young yet, but I've heard Fancy Footwork ballet is meant to be good, and they have classes in this area, also we do Tumbletots and something called Mange Tout Kids which is lots of fun!

4) Not sure on this one, but hopefully someone else will help.

Hope that helps and good luck with the move-send me an email if you want any more info-we moved into the area when my daughter was 5 months old.

Welcome to SWnice as we call it! You have picked a lovely place to move to.

Further to the suggestions that mumtozoe has offered, I would add that Toddlers is also a lovely playgroup. It's held on Thursday mornings at Church of the Ascension on Malwood Road, so just a short walk up Nightingale Lane and you're there. The sessions run 9.15 to 10.45 and 10.45 til 12.15 I think but it's worth checking their website. It's pretty much a free for all, with lovely coffee for mums, and a singsong at the end. It's £1 per child.

Depending on where you are moving to there are two Noah's Ark nurseries for you to consider. One on Cobham Close and one on Endlesham Road. My daughter goes to the Endlesham Road one and we could not be happier with it. They are very popular though but it's worth giving them a call.

Other activities we've enjoyed are Amanda's Action Kid's in the Common Ground Cafe. Check out her website for times.

My three year old loves Fancy Footwork Ballet, and both my two and three year old girls love Playball which I can really recommend. It's great fun.

Re pre/post natal yoga I can wholeheartedly recommend Nadia from Battersea Yoga. Her classes are wonderful. If you google Battersea Yoga you'll find details of her classes.

Do feel free to e-mail me directly if you have any other questions and welcome again.

You should have a look at Cupcake Mums Club & Spa (putney & wandsworth) as they have fantastic classes for babies and toddlers as well as pre and post natal classes for mums.

Hi there,

I found this website a few months ago and, you're right, it's great! The owner, Annabel, is lovely too.

As a Mummy already with one on the way, things, I'm sure, will get tough at times, so if you need ANYTHING doing, please visit our website www.houseelf.co.uk or give us a call on 07512 319048 if you need help with:

Picking up shopping
Picking up dry cleaning
Walking a pet
Cleaning the house
Clearing out the attic/cellar
......ANYTHING

Hope to speak soon and enjoy the area. It's fab!

Jake.
