Sleep Disorder and Prescribed Melatonin

Postby burlmouse » Sun Sep 07, 2014 11:26 am

Hi,

My DS is three and a half years old and has had trouble sleeping all of his life. He had meningitis when he was a newborn baby and on the whole has recovered well but there a few issues, one being his inability to sleep through the night and constant night waking. He used to bang his head repeatedly against the sides of his cot but we took him out of his cot when he was two and padded his bed so he couldn't bang his head anymore. Now he just rocks himself to sleep and groans loudly. He goes off to sleep without any problem and usually sleeps ok from 7pm until midnight but then he wakes repeatedly and rocks and groans for long periods to get back to sleep. We have just been prescribed Bio-Melatonin and just wondered if anyone had any experience of using this or any experience of similar sleeping problems?

Thanks

Also has anyone has had any experience of their little one having a brain scan under a general anesthetic?

I'm sure you will have tried everything but it might be worth taking your son to a good craniosacral therapist, preferably one who specialises in children who have had meningitis. No wonder he can't sleep and banged his head - meningitis will have tightened and hardened the delicate membranes in his little head so it will feel tight and uncomfortable inside. Better to try to unravel the damage than simply medicate for the symptoms!
http://www.meningitisnow.org/ may have details of some craniosacral therapists in London who specialise.
Good luck!
