Removal company and builder recommendations!

Postby justalocal » Thu Sep 18, 2014 1:19 pm

Hi all,

I'm hoping for recommendations. The first being the most urgent for obvious reasons ;)

We are about to move house - we had a terrible experience when we last moved - one that sticks even though it was ten years ago! We are only moving 1/4 mile, but need a good removals company to pack and move us.

Once we get there, we'll be looking into side return extension. Anyone had this done with builders they would recommend and who aren't too pricey? Doesn't have to be cheap as chips, but some seem to have very inflated costs for this extension particularly.

Thank you!

I've used Gentleman and a Van http://www.gentlemanandavan.co.uk/ when we moved about half a mile coming up to 3 years ago and they were absolutely brilliant.

I've recently been back in touch with them as we are looking at converting our garage and need to move some furniture out into storage whilst we do it and although we're only at quote stage at the moment, James was as helpful and courteous as ever and when the time comes I will definitely be giving them my business.

Re builders - I'm in the same boat so not a great deal of help on that front I'm afraid. But hope this helps and good luck.

Personally I cannot recommend Burke & Wills enough.

They are so professional in their approach and work like a crack team of Royal Marines that it can take your breath away.

Based in Wandsworth somewhere, they made our previous company look like a bunch of clowns - and they price reasonably too.

Watch them strip and safely pack an entire kitchen in minutes - it should be on Youtube!

Second vote for Gentleman and a Van - they are absolutely brilliant - cost effective and incredibly efficient!

also - give Rory Gordon at Good London Builders a call for your side extension.

Yes we used Gentleman and a Van too and they were great. I had 5 quotes and they were cheapest and everything was perfectly packed and all furniture wrapped.

Whatever you do, do not use Clockwork, they have been the clowns a previous poster referred to.

:D

I will give you a few examples of the clownish behaviour we experienced (NOT Clockwork though I hasten to add! :D ... I have never even heard of them ).

1) Their staff seemed to consist of one man in his 40's and three teenagers who all seemed to be doing an impression of Harry Enfield's "Kevin" character - listless, not at all interested and about as proactive as a baby sloth!

2) Packing skills were a joke! I saw one callow youth packing our broom by taking a large 3ft square box and just shoving it in to take to the van...the broom handle sticking out of a box that could holds at least 100 books...

3) They took f-o-r-e-v-e-r ... The people waiting to move in arrived hours before these jokers had packed our stuff into the van ... I was fed up having to make excuses!

I could go on but it was too painful.

Hello,

For the builder I would recommend Lofty Creations UK Ltd. The company's phone number is 0800 783 9029.

We would look forward to talking to you about your extension.

Regards,

Mary

Hi there

My builder is fantastic. I kiwi guy who is honest, reliable and very good. He did up our house in Putney, including our side return. He's doing our neighbours house now and has since done two of my friends side returns in Putney too. It's hard to find a good, honest builder. My advice is if you pay peanuts you will get a shoddy job. I would get Leon round for a chat at least,

Hi not sure if you have found a builder yet but can confidently recommend A3 Construction www.a3construction.co.uk

Helpful, respectful and the company owners Andrew and Terry (brothers) are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly.

Thanks so much for great suggestions. So very helpful. Will be contacting builders a few months after we move!

Thanks all - the clowns were quite something! Our previous move involved us coming home to the packers smoking illegals, and when we got to the new flat it was evident that their packing method had been 'sweep into box with non-dominant arm'!

Thanks all!
